Any updates on age cut-off changes in USA, USSSA, or PGF softball?
Found this on USA website for the 23-24 season. Looks like it will be age on Aug 31 for next year's travel season. This coming summer is still Dec 31.

2024 Championship Play Season - Junior Olympic Age Qualifications. (September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024)
A player’s age as of August 31 determines the age in which the player is eligible to play the following year.

viii. 8-Under Age Classification. A player whose 9th birthday is prior to September 1, 2023, is INELIGIBLE.
ix. 10-Under Age Classification. A player whose 11th birthday is prior to September 1, 2023, is INELIGIBLE.
x. 12-Under Age Classification. A player whose 13th birthday is prior to September 1, 2023, is INELIGIBLE.
xi. 14-Under Age Classification. A player whose 15th birthday is prior to September 1, 2023, is INELIGIBLE.
xii. 16-Under Age Classification. A player whose 17th birthday is prior to September 1, 2023, is INELIGIBLE.
xiii. 18-Under Age Classification. A player whose 19th birthday is prior to September 1, 2023, is INELIGIBLE.

This will be interesting if others follow. We have Oct 1 school cut off- so it will align kids not born in Sept to grad year (that followed base enrollment rules). 14 u will be 8th and 9th minus September birthday 8 Graders who will still be able to play 12u and plus 10th grade September birthdays. I think.

Right now 14u is Oct- Dec 7th graders, all 8th graders and Jan-Sept 9th graders.

I think it’s great for my Dec birthday kiddo.

I'm being told that PGF will not make the change, but USSSA most likely will. Is anyone else hearing the same or have more info?

This is just dumb to do unless everyone can agree. Kids will have to continue to play up in order to play a variety of sanctions.

Considering Kevin Shelton is the new DFW USA Commissioner and he has a huge influence on Alliance I am betting Alliance will change. If USA, USSSA, and Alliance change I am betting PGF does. I think Triple Crown is already aligned with Alliance

The primary impact will be mixed year teams. But it's one of those things that will be big news for a couple of years as teams are effected, but then will fade away as organizations adjust.

Need to check to see if this is just a Northern California Metro thing, but I heard today the Nor Cal USA softball is going with age as of Dec 31, 2022 to determine age for this spring/summer, but the Sept 1st age cut-off will start Sept 1st 2023.

I asked our USSSA State Director, who is a good friend of mine, what the likelihood of them following USA with the age change, and this was his response:

"Their initial answer has been no. But in the last 30 days, a lot of state directors are requesting that they mimic USA Softball on the start date. I’m sure we’ll have a concrete answer by July."
