There has been a complete turnover in the coaching staff at the University of South Carolina since the WCWS. My 2026 daughter currently has an interest in a degree program that the college offers, which is one of top 20 in the country, so the softball piece naturally comes along with that. If she wanted to reach out to them to let them know she's playing in a showcase (this weekend) and a national tournament (CO Sparkler, not Power Pool) that their staff is supposed to be attending, any ideas on how to do that given there are no email addresses listed for the new softball coaching staff in their Staff Directory? The SportsRecruits contact form, as of yesterday, was still going to the former coaching staff.

I'm trying to convince her to attend their college camp in Denver in 2 weeks (before the Sparkler) but she's not wanting to do it, saying, "I'll have other opportunities to do that" (to which I say, yes, but why not do it when we're already in Denver and don't have to travel extra for it?).

Go to the camp. If she’s a ‘26 and not on their radar there won’t be many other opportunities. Also, a SEC coach is probably not going to be watching games that are not in the power pools. They aren’t in the same complex so to get a coach to drive somewhere else is going to take a bit. Not saying they won’t, but they’ll need a reason to get in their car.

Go Cocks! Good luck to your daughter. I am curious, though, what the degree program is that she's looking at. If she is a great student, she should be looking at the South Carolina Honors College which is the best public honors college in the country (and it isn't particularly close). Many of the high-level degree programs at South Carolina are damned-near unattainable if you're not in the Honors College. The undergraduate international business program, for example.

It's a biology-related program she's interested in. Of course, that could change next month!

Get on a team that she has a relationship with (see teams she recruited from while at Charlotte) , go to there camps on campus. When sending emails make sure to send game film with, also send to assistant coaches as a lot of times they are the ones out watching the kids.

Not trying to sound harsh but the reality is before even stepping foot in Colorado most coaches already have there list of players they are going to see, and most if leaving games at the main complex for power pools are heading to the IDT....

Tell your DD to go to the camp. She should treat it as a tryout and do everything she can to standout and get on the coaching staffs radar. It's one of the few times she needs to think it's about ME. Especially if she is a new HC. Not being in a power pool makes it difficult to be seen by the top schools. The coaches usually have a list of players they want to look at when they get there. If she does well she may be added to the list. Provide the coach with a schedule of when she is supposed to play.

It's NEVER too early. If she does get the coaches attention it will give your DD the rest of the summer and next year to hopefully garner enough attention to receive an offer. Kids always think they have plenty of time. In reality the recruiting window is very short with many restrictions on the coach.

Even more to this point, find out when South Carolina has their own camps, and go to those. IMO, there is no better opportunity to show what kind of player and person you are than by going to a camp hosted by coaches at the specific school you're targeting. It demonstrates clear interest and, if you do well, you'll be part of the coaching staff's post-camp discussion. Make sure they know who you are before showing up. It's a tryout...hold nothing back in terms of effort. It never ceases to amaze when I see someone pull up on a fly ball within reach or not go after a pitch right over the plate. When someone speaks to you, whoever that might be...coaches...players...support staff...say something positive and memorable.
