If he said base path what makes you think he meant running lane? Not arguing, just curious. As you said, not really a way to make a judgement on if she deviated more than 3 feet just based on the pics.obviously a few frames before the tag attempt would help establish the straight line and drive the point home that she did not deviate 3' from said straight line once established.......but he made it clear his justification was she was out of the running lane (which he called the basepath), and that's why she was out

So, yep...he was just wrong.yes, the pics don't provide judgement - i'll say that i was actually doing color on a broadcast and we were positioned behind the plate, good view down the line......she was legal, but blue made the statement that the lines are there for a reason, and she was clearly outside the basepath (meaning the lines) therefore she was out.....yes, he was calling the running lane the basepath, as if running outside the lines made for auto out
coach didn't say much......it was batter number two in what turned out to be a 10-0 win in 5, i think he knew the projected outcome ahead of time and didn't want to argue......but the field ump laughed after and said he was surprised no one questioned it
Yep, another ump that can't even get the basics correct. So, yep...he was just wrong.
