obviously a few frames before the tag attempt would help establish the straight line and drive the point home that she did not deviate 3' from said straight line once established.......but he made it clear his justification was she was out of the running lane (which he called the basepath), and that's why she was out

You are correct that we can’t make an assessment whether or not she deviated more than three feet. But the runner’s lane has no bearing here whatsoever on the play. The lane only applies when a ball is thrown to first base and the batter-runner hinders or impedes the player at first from receiving the throw. No throw, no need to talk about the lane.

If he said base path what makes you think he meant running lane? Not arguing, just curious. As you said, not really a way to make a judgement on if she deviated more than 3 feet just based on the pics.

yes, the pics don't provide judgement - i'll say that i was actually doing color on a broadcast and we were positioned behind the plate, good view down the line......she was legal, but blue made the statement that the lines are there for a reason, and she was clearly outside the basepath (meaning the lines) therefore she was out.....yes, he was calling the running lane the basepath, as if running outside the lines made for auto out

coach didn't say much......it was batter number two in what turned out to be a 10-0 win in 5, i think he knew the projected outcome ahead of time and didn't want to argue......but the field ump laughed after and said he was surprised no one questioned it

Yep, another ump that can't even get the basics correct.

The past weekend when I went to the games I noticed the bad taste in my mouth about umps and their inability to just call the basics of the game. I really disliked those initial feelings about "how is Blue going to f'up today".

To my surprise, the weekend went fine. A passing grade.

to give credit where it is due, we had a crew yesterday that did a nice job

had a team that was obnoxious.....quiet in the dugout until the pitcher was in middle of their arm circle, then just straight out screaming.....stuff the pitchers didn't even notice, but was just annoying to everyone else.....stuff you saw in 10u you with "that" team (this was HS varsity)

two coaches were tools as well........DD2 buried a girl who got too far off first, umpire was in perfect position.....she was out by 6-8".....coach in first base box started yelling to the HP ump to help......FU calmly asked if she was asking him to see if he had a better look, she said yes, he started walking down the line.....he got 5' and HP signaled out lol

DD1 (why we were involved in 2 of these was just our luck haha) came in hot on a sinking line drive to SS......she got it just off her shoe tops, puff of dust from her glove.....she looked to flip it to pitcher, noticed there was no signal, and threw to first.....BR crossed bag before throw, FU was shaded from play a little, called safe......our coach asked if he could check and see if HP saw it better, he said sure, they conferenced for a couple seconds, call was out (correct call).......other side lost their mind lol......AC yelled across field that I guess you need to be a man to get a call in this game

she went on to "appea" (her words) so many calls and did it improperly every time that blue finally started to ignore her.......got a dad on their side so fired up that he got told to leave by HP (he did........come to find out he was escorted by police from a MS game a few years back haha

AC was heard loudly telling her team post game that "apparently you only get calls in this game if you don't have t!t$......

blue kept their composure and did a great job all things considered.....

of course we won 16-2, but who knows what it would have been if we didn't get all the calls ;)
