This is in regards to going to an invite only camp for prospects. At the college. This discussion came up recently with a family whose daughter has interest from a D1. The college reached out connecting with her and gave her a specific code# number to reply back with.

The college also hosts camps that anybody can attend. NO code# to sign up.

Bringing this up because we talk about going to college camps and
what purpose camps may be.

This CODE# approach to looking at prospects seems to single out
(narrow down) who the college is directly interested in.
Defining two separate type of camps.

➡️How many other softball people are encountering this CODE# approach to invite only prospect camps on college campuses?

DD never received a code nor attended an “invite-only” camp and neither did any of her teammates (2022s, most at MM D1s now).
However, for one P5 camp that she signed up through Ryzer, she was immediately waitlisted. Within 30 minutes, she received an email that she was in. I did wonder at the time if they were screening players using the waitlist.

People get excited because they get an email from a college saying please attend our camp. But those can be blanket emails for marketing.

Not this blatant because colleges are technically not allowed to have 'invite only' camps by NCAA rule; but a lot of camps (most?) separate out the 'real' prospects from the 'money makers' attendees. This looks to be an easy way to count how many 'real prospects' are going to attend.

If you want to know which group your DD is in, the Head Coach/Main AC will be with or watching the prospects while the other group(or groups) are led by current players or AC's who look like they are still young enough to be a current player.

Sounds like a blanket email personally. If they know who the player is and targeting them for recruitment, not sure they'd need a special code.

Agreed. It is an easy, casual conversation with the player’s TB coach (if it is before the 9/1 date for their recruiting year) to say’ “I’d really like to see Little Sally attend one of our camps.” Seen that happen quite often in person.

As @HotRoute commented perhaps this is a way of screening players 🤷‍♀️

Because a code# would separate them from all the other emails they get.

@ Marriard have you heard of any colleges using a code number though? Didn't know if this was a new style of how colleges are doing things?

Could be.

The number of players that will be attending the camp is absolutely smaller than the size of a camp they could hold.
