The safety dance will be experimental beginning in the 2022-23 academic year with the approval of the double first base for NCAA according to this press release:

NCAA softball games can be played using a double first base on an experimental basis for the 2022-23 academic year. The experimental rule, which was approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on Thursday, allows the fielder to use half the base and the batter-runner to use the other half.

I found it odd that at a recent tournament @ the USSSA Space Coast Complex in FL, there were no double bases, even on the softball-only fields. On almost all the groundouts, it wasn't really an issue. But at least 1/2 the D3K's seemed to result in cringe-worthy moments due to an imminent fielder-runner, runner-ball, or fielder-runner-ball collision.

Technically the safety base is optional in NFHS. My DD's high school just added the safety base this spring.
