Interesting Ejection Question

Not softball, but this did get me thinking.
Josh Donaldson hits a home run a few days ago. As he's approaching home plate he kicks dirt onto the plate. Umpire ejects him, then he reaches back and steps on the plate as if he had missed touching it.

Maybe he did touch the plate the first time, his run did count. But should the run count if he truly missed the plate, got ejected, then touched the plate?
Or another way to look at it, would the run count if say he insulted the umpire at 2nd base and got ejected before even getting close to home?
Does getting ejected nullify your actions instantly after?

I don't believe an ejection takes place until a play is officially over even though a home run is a dead ball play the player still finishes the play and then is ejected.
