DDs team does basically no running that is not baserunning, other than occasionally HC will get upset at some lack of effort and tell everyone to go touch a pole. I would love to see a perimeter jog around the field after warmups, but they do generally all hustle from station to station.

Agree that the HC in the OP is wasting a huge amount of time. a good HC after seeing a few games should adjust practice to weakest areas of team. if they are not getting on base, no way to tell if they need more endurance/speed, so first priority is to get them on base . . . THEN work on running if it is an issue.

When I coached 10U & 12U our "Conditioning" consisted of 15 minutes of Ultimate Softball, same rules as frisbee but with a softball and gloves (and masks for deflections). This worked on the following skills: catching in motion, throwing on the run, quick decision making, oh yeah and running: interval sprinting, quick start/stop. The girls were highly competitive, we gave water breaks every 5 minutes and they were dripping with sweat, not wanting to stop. 15 minutes of the girls getting better at multiple facets of the game without even knowing it.

Sprints only. Played defense for sprints.. played relays for sprints.. played a game called fetch which was sprinting. Did a slow moderate Indian run for warm up. Some base running(racing) every other practice or so. No long distance nonsense. Everything in the game is a sprint. The game is sprinting so we practiced sprinting.
