There was a catcher on one of the Olympic teams, forget what country she played for, who used to pop her glove in one location and the pitch was going to another.

Nothing wrong with that. See this at every level. It's considered a timing thing...

Never understood the glove pop, seems more beneficial (from a timing standpoint) to the hitter who can’t see when the catcher is set.

Can understand how glove pop could become habit because catchers might be doing that to pop excessive dirt off their glove.

But certainly there are catchers doing it for other purpose.

It was not something I did.

We heard the whistle at the Texas/Arizona game at the WCWS. One whistle was followed by a Texas HR. I assumed it was an Astros thing--an indication of what pitch was coming.
