My daughter is 12 playing 14u travel. She's small, 4'9" and 75 lbs after a good dinner. She's primarily played 2nd base since day one. Currently transitioning from a Vinci RV1923-22 H-Web to a Pro 44 11.75" H-Web. The Vinci was my wife's "just for fun" glove that my daughter commandeered. She's just started using the Pro 44 in practices but I think it will be game ready soon (been working on it for a while). So...that's the background...here's the question...she has expressed interest in also learning to play outfield. Her coach welcomed her to also start attending outfield sessions. My question is, should she be using a glove more specific to outfield? Maybe a 12" trap? Is it common to carry an infield glove and an outfield glove? I always did in my playing days. She'll probably be splitting time at 2nd and OF on tournament weekends. Just curious what others have done or recommend...Thanks!

Dd had a 12 inch basket pitching. She started playing 3rd some so
I picked up a 12 1/4 H web. That’s what she uses for everything now.
I think the H web is the best utility style.

She’s at that very tough age, and especially size to find a correct sized outfield glove for a 12” ball. And at 14U it’s an even faster game with harder hit shots to run after in the OF!

I’m a huge fan of a true Six-finger trap web glove for outfield, but in this case the H-web is probably going to be easier to find, and as Dandan said, the H-web is the best all around web for softball. At least me and him think so…..

Thanks guys. She has an H-Web now. I was thinking a trap would be best for outfield and after your replies I think I’m on the right track. Maybe I'll just see how it goes before I get her a trap. Do you think a 12” is acceptable? Or is 12.5 more typical for OF?
The jump to 14u was a big one for sure. Especially for her…this is from our last tournament…lol

Serviceable, but barely acceptable. And it depends on who’s 12” glove we’re talking about.

A 12” Rawlings Pro206 / Pro1000 is a small 12” glove whereas a 12” NP6 is considerably overall a much larger glove, hard to believe they’re both 12” gloves.

Keep a check for when the next time Vinci has a sale, order her a custom BV1929 with a H-web, and have them lace the wrist button lap to the smallest setting as part of the custom.

The BV1929 is a stamped 12.5” glove that plays like a 12.25”, no telling how many dads here have bought their DD’s a 1929?

FWIW my daughter is using an 11.75" for SS and a 13" for CF. The 11.75" would work but she thought it was too small for fly balls.

I would suggest a 12.5" for outfield.

I suggested a two in the pinky method for a friend of mine whose Dd was having glove issues and it worked wonders. Don't forget about that.

I almost did but after discussing things with Annasdad and Casey (a forum Vinci rep), I ended up buying DD a Vinci RV 1961, which is 12.75 but as Annasdad said about the 1929, it plays a bit smaller. My DD is 12 like yours, but bigger at 5'2" and a touch over 90 lbs. At any rate, she loves it and doesn't feel it's too much for her.

I’m looking for glove recommendations for a 14u travel first baseman. Preferably I’d like to find a used one as she will need it relatively soon. Or will it be pretty fast to break in a new one? Thank you in advance!!
