I was in a situation not too long ago when it looked like I would have to move to Germany. So, I took the time to learn a lot about European softball.
In a lot of European countries, the only age groups for softball are 16U, 19U and adult. Younger girls play baseball up to 12U. While there are a few girls in the US who prefer to play baseball at a young age instead of softball, in some parts of Europe they ALL play on co-ed baseball teams.
While neither baseball nor softball are as big in Europe, the girls are more likely to have played baseball as a youngster.
To give some idea as to how unpopular it is, if I had moved to Germany, there would be only on softball organization in that state. One of the teams they face in league play is almost 400 miles away. Whereas, even in Wisconsin, the leagues only involve a few counties at most.
