None of that makes any sense.

A 60 minute game (drop-dead, revert?), with 5 run per inning cap? Is cap removed in “final inning”? How would you know what the final inning is in such a short game with such potentially long innings (10U)? It sounds like in any scenario, your team would lose the game, no? (which is not an excuse for stopping the play in the middle of a live ball).

Again, none of it makes any sense.

can't imagine an ump declaring 'ball game' with a play in motion / live ball. sure mid at bat announcing 'finish the batter' or finish the inning due to time. BUT with a ball in play off the bat? inexcusable.

No defense from me. Anyone who has ever attended a tournament should know better.

Local umpire numbers are down again this season with a number of last year's officials not returning and pretty much no replacements.

I am not sure how to solve it but it is becoming a critical issue. I know our local TD's are already using lots of people they would rather not (but then they aren't doing anything about it either).

So what was the plate ump doing during this (you know, the one that actually is in charge of the game)?

Plate ump was looking down at the ground, wouldn't even make eye contact with the coach. This was while the base ump was yelling at the coach (coach was walking from 3B box back to 1B dugout), defending his decision about why he called the game in the middle of a play.

Correct. There was a 5-run limit per inning...we were down by 7 when we started batting, so no chance to win in that inning. Still...to call the game in the middle of the play is just asinine. Let the play end and then call the game. It was the last game of the day but no one can be in that big of a rush that they can't wait another 30 seconds for the play to end.

Lol - we played in a tournament once where the host told us during the final game that the 5 run/inning cap only applied to the away team in the final inning.

We were playing the host team and beating them by 6 runs - they were home. :sneaky:
