Free hands until direction is set.. Usually after becoming leveraged but with 2 strikes all bets are off.

Are you saying that the hands have to be free to find a launch starting point appropriate for the pitch? That the starting point of the hands will differ for different pitches?

Yes, they need to be free to adjust for the pitch location vs pulling back and holding a universal hand pivot point. Pitches require different barrel paths. Some are more vertical while others are more flat.

That would be impossible, since the stride is the same for every pitch, and your front foot must be down when the ball is halfway there.

The swing forward phase doesn't begin until toe touch.

Of course, youth hitters do it the wrong way all the time.

Load takes the hands to a consistent spot.

Tilt (or no tilt in the case of a high pitch) helps them deliver the barrel to the right spot.

There are always some pull-in/let-out hand adjustments during the swing, particularly for off-speed or movement pitches, but the utility and requirement of tilt is very evident here.

Yes the hands are back on all pitches but don't get stuck behind a corner. They are free to go where needed to barrel up the pitch.

I’ll show this comparison here since it directly applies to this thread. This young lady wasn’t getting the free hands she needed to adjust quickly upon getting leveraged. A somewhat abaf pattern. has since learned ‘free’ hands within the sequence along w a pulling core and can make adjustments when necessary. This is the mechanical advantage. notice the early accelaration, which is quicker than the abaf pattern she was used to. There are two moments of separation. she now has both.

here’s a before and after.
