When I hear a parent or worse a coach holler out "Level swing up there Jenny!" I throw up in my mouth. LOL. Now a days I hear the more revised version of this cue, "Don't drop your back shoulder." This is equally bad. Maybe worse because it contains a negative. DON'T.

What I have been doing to combat the level swing is to take softball size whiffle balls and either tape or use a marker to put a line on the circumference of the ball. Then I put it on a tee with the line aligned with the shoulders of the hitter. First I ask them to line the bat up with line imitating contact, then wind up a backswing and hit the ball. For live hitting I tell them to cut the ball in half at a 45 degree angle.
