I choke up on a 34"
~Dont like knob hitting palm.
~Prefered the balance when coked up.
~Utilized small ball into hitting strategy.
~worked! set a hitting record at the WCWS.

Also know one of the best hitters in the nation used to hold on to the knob
Litterally her palm beyond the knob.
Can see holding with fingers.
That is Liz Mizzera batting for Texas A&M

This is how I hold the bat. My swing feels better, but it also can leave a nice little bruise in the trapezium/scaphoid area.

I cannot find the link for the life of me, but I recently read a study done by, I think, one of the bat sensor companies, that examined swings when choking up, holding the bat normally, having the hand hang below the knob, and one more. Some interesting results (choking up, typically, did not produce results that were as good as the other options).

Use a bat that you can swing comfortably with confidence... no need to choke up. Days of swinging an oversized team bat are over.

Never got bruise.

No one in science came and studied my mechanics swinging a bat.
Its good video and measurements are used now on swing production.

Certainly science has been 'trying' to understand the best swing mechanics.
Yet there is no one standard mechanic that fits all.
Even at the top.
Nor same bat for everyone either.

👉individual preference...
Apparently some individual coaching preferences also.

Agreed, that's why standardizing 34 inch bats (as per other thread) and forcing some hitters to choke up does not make sense.

Just because it doesnt make sense to you is not a reason to not try a 34" bat.

Lol 'forcing' hilarious like its waterboarding...
Who says they 'have to' choke up?
No one did, its an 'option'.

Sorry there julray but sometimes coaches mandate things people and players disagree with.

Guess you would pick transfering schools or not playing softball?

*remember julray i never said i agree with standardizing 34".
Atleast there is a way to make an adjustment.

I coach choking up for control, 2 strike count, and quicker bat head through the zone.. that being said i leave it to the hitter and their home practice habits to decide to add it to their hitting process
