Here's my project, didn't see the need to spend over $300 on a sliding mat, so cobbled this together.
The mat is 6ft x 2ft, and I cut the film down to 8ft x about 26in.
It's working well. Been used for sliding and diving. Panda film is just a Polyethylene, but found it cheaper than other vapor barriers. I wanted something slick, and Panda Film is that. I was originally using two pieces of Panda Film under the mat, but the layers would bunch up, so trying the poster board; it's survived 3 practice sessions so far, but will fail soon, so considering other options. I could try putting the film layers on top of the mat, but I don't want the girls to slide off the mat - the floor where we practice is pretty hard.
I've slid on it myself a few times and it feels similar enough to dirt to get the concept and the girls feel safer and got confidence quickly.
Mat was $40, film about $20.
