DD is the pitcher for her 10u team this week she got called out for doing back step pitch.... non sanction tourney, I got into a little discussion with the blues and they said it was only allowed on 14u and up, this was her 2nd game pitching, they didn’t call her on 1st game, now got with pitching coach/ ex college coach and he said that it was a rule change and it was legal for 2020 season ????

only allowed 14u and up? Ha ha ha..........Never saw mention of this restriction in the rule books. Maybe Blue was just one that doesn't like to admit mistakes so he started making up rules to confuse you.

Like all softball rules it is confusing but they did change the rules this year in most rule sets. Here is a link to a thread from about 2 months ago discussing it.

Not sure where you are playing, but obviously the umpires do not know the rules.......

Explains it all.

Just about every sanction had a change for this coming year, but even those are not all the same. Not knowing what sanction‘s rules you are playing just makes it worse.

As for the MSU on 14u vs. 10u ... that doesn’t even make sense. Why would you let 14u (who should know how to pitch) do it, but not 10u (who is just learning)? If you are going to make something up, at least make it make sense. [sarcasm]

So it is legal to do back step cause that’s the way she has learned and has a lot of momentum with it...

Only in PGF and NCAA the step back is not legal. In these 2 sanctions can start with their foot back, but CANNOT move it back once it is set. From that point the plant foot motion must be forward only.

10U travel ball, prior to our games, the ump confirmed the step-back is legal. A pitcher’s feet are set whenever her hands come together. Of course, most pitchers kept both feet on the rubber; however, a few used the step-back (quasi Superman pitch) without any problems.
