. The hand/thumb will get sore with a regular glove.
Regardless of what glove/mitt a person uses if they're catching the ball incorrectly their hand/fingers/thumb can take the brunt of pain.
(Simply commenting,
Using a catching mitt is not a solve it all)

I will back up my statement by knowing while teaching/coaching making Corrections in the way players have been receiving the ball with the same glove they have used has eliminated the problem numerous times.
Fielders and Catchers.

Here is this piece of joy~
I never, not even once, ever had a thumb/hand issue catching!
Even using a fielding glove my entire career!

When DD has control, I can catcher her with most anything. On the days, the control is not as good, I want padding. I have also noticed that if you are catching different pitchers regularly, more padding is wanted. I've seen my daughter handcuff dads at pitching lessons whose DD throws harder. Ball moves different from different girls. Have also had this happen to me.
