    Two calls from last night:

@CoachJD I am sorry that happened. @Dabears17 NEVER should threats like you mentioned be made toward umpires. As you mentioned, umpires make mistakes and so do coaches. I've been wrong before about my positions on calls in games. Players make mistakes as well. I've posted this several times...

    Continuing Education - Umpire Evaluation

Thank goodness that these bats were relatively new and the school provided them. Mentally, I think that a lot of hitters who have their bats taken at key conferences or post-season tournaments find it tough to make a drastic change.

    Continuing Education - Umpire Evaluation

No, they were Miken. This was during that brief period of time when the umpires "checked the bats" prior to the game. I think that it was either 2012 or 2013. It might have been a conference rule. My dd had a bat seized in a regional that was also brand new. She had not used that bat. It...

    Continuing Education - Umpire Evaluation

While I have seen numerous D-I and D-II games, I have seen far more at the D-II level. I'd have to say that the quality of umpiring was exceptional. I do recognize that games through the week might cause problems but, to be honest, these umpires we saw in mid-week games were the same ones we...

    New Coach, advice appreciated

Fake it till you make it. IOWs, the way you carry yourself around the players really matters. Have your plan and then get after it. Coach the best you can. Have standards/rules but not too many. Help those who want help. If it comes down to your principles, don't deviate from them. One...

    What should she work on?

Something that we have added is that instead of being belly button toward the front or pitcher position, we cut that angle in half for some hitters. Then, we do a progression to get them to the belly button to the front. Otherwise, some hitters then to drop their hands to the plane of the ball...

    Two calls from last night:

I understand. There are pleanty of things more important than an old guy venting. I hope you have a great day.

    Two calls from last night:

That is fair enough. I would not believe that the throw was high enough. In fact, it was going to be a bang bang play.

    Two calls from last night:

Two outs and the home team is down by 1. Sixth inning. Ball hit to right field. Right Fielder is shallow and throws to 1B. The throw was a little high but very catchable. Batter/runner hits 1B as 1B stretches up to catch the throw. The safety bag is available to the runner. Runner...

Changeups Work Better When You Call Them

Ken, you produced another exceptional article. Quick story, my daughter was coaching a game a couple of weeks ago and 3,4, and 5 were coming up from the team I helped coach before I had to stop coaching this year. My dd told the HC to be careful with the change up to two of those hitters...

    NAIA ruling on Transgender athletes

Last post from me in this thread unless addressed. I apologize to everyone for being abrasive. This is an issue that I have fought for a long time. I was the head coach of girl's basketball, softball and girl's golf. I have seen the inequities first hand and I have made more than a few...

    NAIA ruling on Transgender athletes

Here is the irony of this topic. Most of us have had to fight tooth and nail to get our dds equal rights on the playing field. Title IX is fine BUT we all know the reality of what has happened across this country. Heck, I was the baseball coach when my dd started her HS career. I know that...

    NAIA ruling on Transgender athletes

The young ladies who worked their whole lives to play collegiate softball were denied the ability because a genetic male took their spot. Aren't those female players who were denied the ability to play humans? Their rights were denied. Boys in HS and college are humans as well. Your argument...

    NAIA ruling on Transgender athletes

Then they played against genetic male players who took positions away from genetic female players.

    NAIA ruling on Transgender athletes

Why would you make that assumption? Why not allow all boys to tryout for the softball program? They have the same genetic code. Anything less than that is bigotry.

    I deleted my post.

    NAIA ruling on Transgender athletes

IMO, this is the best example of misogyny in our society. XX and XY chromosomes should be the criteria to determine who plays where. Comments were made about the research. There hasn't been much research on this topic and where it has, the exception would be where a male who is rated in the...

    What should she work on?

Take a look at her "connection" or the relationship of the hands and the back shoulder. She is dropping her hands and has a looping swing. The end of the bat should make a "Nike Swush" if she is using her hands and core correctly.

    Slow-pitch vs fast-pitch

My dd uses her college fastpitch bat. She and her best friend are the two girls in this area who can hit bombs in slow pitch.
