    Recruiting questions

This just my take and my experience. Most of the recruitment process rests with your daughter and developing a relationship with those coaches. The key is communication with coaches and attending their camps. If they are interested in her they will come to tournaments and watch her. Over...

    Forward lean at release struggles.

I would very much agree that young players have issues with body awareness. Using items like pool noodles, etc. can certainly help. Two things I would add. 1) Video her doing this so she can see what she is doing and she can also see when she does it correctly and possibly "feel" the...

USC Beaufort -Codee Yeske Softball Camps

Here is the link to camps this summer that will take place at University of South Carolina -Beaufort. The Head Coach is Codee Yeske (played at University of South Carolina) and Alison Owen -Pitching Coach (pitched at Georgia and Miss St.). My daughter plays for these coaches and I can tell...

POLL~ is Fastpitch a Balanced sport now?

I think each umpire's zone can vary so much....so depending on how they are calling would depend on who I would give the advantage to. Overall I would say it is more or less balanced at this point.

SmashHouse 16u (Drotar) and SmashHouse 18u (Masters) Tryouts

SmashHouse 16u (Drotar) and SmashHouse 18u (Masters) will be holding tryouts for our fall travel season. The dates and times are listed below. SmashHouse 16U and 18U is coached by former SEC players or coaches with elite level experience. SmashHouse 16u and 18u primarily plays showcase events...

    Drop curve...not really

In a conversation with Ray, AKA "sluggers", about 4-5 years ago he said something like...."a drop curve is basically the same as a drop but thrown with a loose wrist snap". I used this terminology with my DD and it worked wonderfully.

    Change up

IMO the change is one of the most under rated pitches. I see lots of girls moving into 16u without an effective change up and they get hit hard against good competition. If my DD didn't have a change she would be in real trouble. Congrats to your DD in working to get an effective change.

    I give up.

Doug is correct...for a girl that is just turning 10 I think she looks amazing! Is it perfect...no, but you have a long road ahead of you. My DD started at around 11, almost 12 years of age. She is not the most athletic out there and on most of her travel teams she was the 3rd option to...

    I give up.

How old is your DD and how long has she been pitching? If you can post a video it will help with where to start with your DD.

    Changing delivery motion

I know this is true for my DD with both pitching and hitting. The more she simplifies her movements the better mechanics she has. When she first started pitching at around the age of 11 or 12 she was a double pumper, then switched to a single arm backswing, and just about 6 months ago in the...

    DD verbally committed this week!

Very proud of my DD. She verbally committed this week. She put in a lot of work to get to this point, but still has more to do!

How to tell who is #1 and who is #2

I am a little late on this subject, but greatly appreciate your post. This #1 and #2 pitcher thing is a pet peeve of mine. To a certain extent, I think the #1 pitcher mentality should be a thing of the past. I believe it evolved when you just didn't have that many quality pitchers or if you...

    Days Rest before tournament

When we were playing 12 and 14u she would throw maybe 20 pitches or some long toss the day before. Now at 16u we are traveling much farther to showcases so we usually take the day off before. She is on a team with 2 other pitchers so they share the mound time and rotate during the showcase...

    Questions concerning an offer

My DD is in her sophomore year and has one offer from her top 3 schools. There area some talks and it appears her number 1 school may be coming in with an offer. IF that happens I feel pretty good she will accept the offer. Once you accept an offer I assume you email/call any other coaches...

    Slowing down the Change Up

Agree completely, DD throws a backhand change with the ball rolling out of the side of her hand. She recently learned Pauly's change at one of his clinics and it comes in a few MPH faster than her other CU. So she basically has 2 she can utilize to change speeds. He has good stuff for sure.

    How TALL is your pitcher?

I know Drotar's dad well. I will have him point you out next time I am there this season. He helps coach my DDs travel team and works with her as a pitcher. My DD is about 5'7 1/2" and 130 lbs and she can push about 58 and she is 15. Your DD is of similar build so that what was so impressive...

    How TALL is your pitcher?

I have watched your DD on tv before, but didn't make it any games last year. Saw her for the first time live today...was sitting just to the left side of home plate. I was thoroughly impressed with her movement, but even more impressed with her velocity. Just looking at her size I would...

What glove do you bucket dads use to catch?

Mizuno catchers mitt for softball. It works fine and my DD is now 16u. In most cases, unless you catch it in the web it is going to sting.

    Mound Time?

You need to make sure to look at this as journey. I would not get too hung up on things at the 10u and 12u level when it comes to the quality of the team. IMO I would either stay where you are and get mound time or go to a more competitive team and pick-up with other teams for more pitching...

    DDs Pitching Coach

Just wanted to give a big shout out to my DDs pitching coach Jessica Boulware (van der linden). Florida State University is going to retire her #99 jersey. Some of her accomplishments include: 2004 National Player of the Year FSU Hall of Fame Current Puerto Rico National Team Pitching Coach...
