It was a coach (for the fielding team) and this was the call he made and his reasoning (quoted from an email sent to our coach).
Obviously I see the play very differently than he did/does and I wanted to get other people's thoughts so I could be sure it wasn't my biases coming through.
Please share some of your wisdom and persistence. We received DD's 34" Optimus mitt back in late January and I feel like we are only at the point where the ball doesn't pop out consistently. I was naively hopeful it would be if not game ready at least close to game ready by now. This thing is...
Might want to check the rules. USA Softball Rule 8-F-5: "The batter-runner is out when the batter-runner interferes with (a fielder) by discarding their bat in a manner that prevents the defense from making a play on the ball"
We got DD an All-Star MVP Pro backpack for Christmas and she loves it. It fits all her gear easily. She wanted a backpack style because of the school bus for away games. Since it doesn't have wheels, she's not dragging it over my bumper as she lifts it out of the car. Her only complaint was...
This could probably be a separate thread, but I have to give a shoutout to Vinci's customer service. Back at the end of October we ordered a custom catcher's mitt for DD. we received the glove just before Christmas, but they had made a mistake when making the glove. We ordered a right-hand...
Just Gloves has a HoH Softball catcher's mitt. It is 33" though and has rose gold binding (which according to DD definitely makes it awesome).

I would go with the Rocketech, but can't justify the cost for less than a dozen games this year. October in New England can be so hit or miss with the weather. Just wasn't sure if the extra $60 is justified for the StringKing.
Does anyone have any experience with these bats? I noticed them starting to crop up at JustBats and Dicks. Looking to get a drop 10 alloy bat for my DD so that she doesn't destroy her LXT. Not sure if this bat is any better than a Easton Topaz...
This is how I interpreted John's post. The bat was dropped and not moving and the ball rolled into the bat. It all depends on which object is doing the moving.
Since Ed's interpretation of the rule was batter is out, and I don't have the NFHS rules to quote I posted the rule sets I know.
I wonder if this is one of those situations where the rules differ. In NCAA and USA rules the batter is safe as long as the umpire determines the contact wasn't intentional.
From NCAA 11.12:
If the bat is out of the batter’s hand(s) (on the ground), the ball rolls against the dropped bat in...
