A) it is unusual for one of us parents to not be there and there is usually someone else present with medical training (e.g. athletic trainer or nurse/doctor parent), so I would likely let DD play.
B) most HS have athletic trainers present at the school during events. TB is hit or miss and no...
Agree that nutrition is important and often overlooked. We try to pack our own snacks in a cooler with food DD likes...meat, cheese, pickles etc. Eat at local, non-chain restaurants for lunch or dinner. Hotel breakfast varies, but try to get whole eggs/omelettes and avoid cereals, waffles...
I've bought plenty of bats...only one has broken and only after 2-3 days of use. I say go hit the bat however you want. Out of an abundance of caution I have DD do 100+ hits off the tee rotating it around, then its fair game. Dimple balls, regular balls, 10" balls,12" balls, wiffle balls...
LOL! This is great...I get a "*NAUGHTY NAUGHTY*" edit to my own edited words as to not offend the too sensitive among us. Sorry mods for violating any rules.
I appreciate Sluggers for bringing this issue up. More men need to step up and support our daughters. Riley Gaines should not be...
You are not banning trans men, you're protecting women athletes. Words matter...change the narrative.
Agree with LEsoftballdad...NCAA needs to step up, as do many other organizations. Dawn Stanley missed an opportunity.
What a *NAUGHTY NAUGHTY* joke this has become. Embarrassing.
Is the FAFSA (or CSS) required even if you know you will not get need based aid or any federal money? Can you opt out of it? I assume it is school dependent, but figured I'd ask anyway.
DD pitches better in games too. Velo up and movement better. She is also better after the 2nd/3rd inning vs the 1st...probably more to do with understanding what the umpire is calling than being warmed up.
HS Softball for us is a 2+ month period of time where mostly below average to no talent is assembled on various teams throughout the area to play games that are often painful to watch. My only hope is that DD has fun and doesn't get injured, so that we can start playing real softball again on...
The D1 vs anywhere else thing drives me crazy. I always assumed it was a parent ego thing. I watched 2 decent players stop playing softball last fall because they didn't get D1 offers. Literally turned down good scholarship offers from other division schools.
IMHO it's the focus solely on velocity. DD plays high level 18U travel ball. See a ton of throwers, but not a ton of pitchers.
Some of the best pitchers she has faced did not throw anywhere near as fast as other girls. For me that is when the game gets fun...good pitcher vs smart hitter...
She's 7. Let her play BB and be the biggest proponent of that choice. But be realistic and show her how many women play BB at a high level. Sometimes the answer isn't "you can be anything you want to be"...the truth is you can't...and that is okay too. Kids should pick their own path, but...
Shitty umpires that make pitchers put the entire ball over the plate for a strike lead to great hitting and frankly IMHO endanger players. This is especially true with as hot as bats are these days. Not sure this was the the case in Clearwater or not. But the strike zones are ridiculous at...
