Can the assistant coach address the Ump?

Every umpires dream.......getting a 4 way with the manager, 1b coach and 3b coach.

IS TRAVEL BALL leaving people/players/rec & school behind...OR...

I can personally attest to this. My DD started at 10 in LL and probably the worst player in the tryout........ Started playing on a small community C travel team at 11 getting their brains beat in most weekends....... Moved up to a B team playing .500 ball with an average team but getting reps...

    Waivering players down

The team with 10U kids won the tourney

Should umpires signal/announce a fair ball?

One mechanic is to signal with the arm INSIDE of the baseline (pointing fair).........there is no verbalization (provided you have a good home plate ump moved up into the best position to make the call). The signal should be given as the ball is determined fair. It could be when it is touched...

    Waivering players down

This was in Michigan right? Owosso? I think the tourney directors after being called out made some sort of apology on facebook admitting to the issue. They also committed for refunding all the 8U team monies. Now apparently this team has been playing 8U with 10 year olds all year.... Oh...

    Leaving National Teams

Is the Sparkler a qualifying tourney or anyone can participate?

    Leaving National Teams

They were in the 14U open bracket. Not power pool. Finished in the silver bracket.

    Leaving National Teams

Just for the fun of it and for the information I will say our local fees are $1100. Last year we played about 20 fall contests and around 30 this Summer. The "regional" team fees for 2023 are $3200 for about 70 games, a better inside facility and more individualized work. Plus more "exposure...

    Leaving National Teams

My DD was a good rec player, now a good B/C player. Not dominating but hitting bombs and consistently driving the ball into gaps. Pitches as well but again not dominating but getting efficient and changing speeds well. My daughter has been invited to try out for a "regional" team 2 hours...

The level of coaches & umpires

The only umpires I know getting any evaluation usually ask for it and want to move up levels. Great umpires want to be critiqued and improve their game too. There are clinics that have "live" games and umpires get evaluated too. It is all great feedback. Let me point out the percentage of...

    Blocking at Home

Do you mean standing up straddling the plate? This is itself is not obstruction if there is access to the plate. Similar to straddling any other base. The catcher will probably do it once and after they get swept away with the slide that would be the end of it. Or does it mean something else?

For Umpires- Does how the catcher set up and/or physically catch the ball influence your ball and strike call?

Thanks another great point on catchers sticking each pitch. That is another way to influence ball and strikes.

For Umpires- Does how the catcher set up and/or physically catch the ball influence your ball and strike call?

Any explanations for this? With all the training of calling the pitch as it crosses the plate only you think we would see framing really inconsequential. How do you subconsciously influence an umpire? It must be happening to me but I don't realize it? I certainly realize great catchers are...

For Umpires- Does how the catcher set up and/or physically catch the ball influence your ball and strike call?

Thanks for all the input! This is great stuff for umpires of all levels. We are all trying to help the game. Interesting on the timing of calling pitches until after it hits the glove. Lots of etc..etc... I haven't seen any marginal pitch that was dropped or poorly framed called a strike in...

For Umpires- Does how the catcher set up and/or physically catch the ball influence your ball and strike call?

There has been a great discussion on framing and how it related to getting more strikes called. My questions to everyone but specifically umpires is: 1. If the catcher grabs a low pitch palms up have you been trained to call this a ball? If they frame by turning their wrist and get the glove...

POLL- do you think the Umpire determines who wins?

This is good stuff! I have not seen many catchers framing pitches with glove under the pitch. I like it. Umpires have been taught balls caught palm up are "get you in trouble pitches." Other umpires have mentioned this is going away. In my area it is still prevalent. Any low marginal pitch...

POLL- do you think the Umpire determines who wins?

From an umpire's perspective I can't think of any time I determined who won. However like most umpires many plays I do remember are the blown calls that possibly ended a specific opportunity or chance for a team. We remember the worst.....Top 10 HS matchup final score was 1-0. A great game to...

    Quitting already?

I like the spectators outside past the dugouts.......that might be a good option to deescalate the animosity in many instances.

Never understood why umps don't do this more often

Still waiting on that HC who filed a protest 2 weeks ago to come over and tell me he was wrong........LOL
