Huge shoutout to our family friend Peyton who threw an 8-inning 1-hit shutout vs #2 ranked Florida State to move to 6-1 on the season.
This was a girl who in 14-U was told by a coach that she would never pitch D1, and who as a Freshman in college was told by her head coach she was only good...
So my 11U DD often throws drops during games, but if you asked her to throw a drop she struggles. Is there a way to teach her to do something she already does naturally?
Some slow motion video of drops during one game from the fall I captured. These are from 40ft.
During the fall my DD hit a lot of grounders. We’ve been doing the CamWood program, but she still seems to hit a lot of would-be grounders when we turn to her real bat.
Any drills or suggestions to help?
My DD hit her hip and now has pain pitching due to the arm brushing against the bruise. Any padding type solutions to help with the pain? Just trying to get through the end of the month.
My daughter’s pitching coaches’ facility was destroyed by flooding from Hurricane Ida. They are a married couple and this is their sole job and income.
If you can help out a women’s run business that gives back a lot to the sport, they have a go fund me to help get back up and running They...
Best glove size for an 11 year old pitcher/outfielder, 5'2? Using a 12inch youth now but the pocket seems small with the bigger ball.
Glove company recommended a regular, not youth, said only difference is opening size.
Should she stick with a 12 inch or go to 12.25 inches or 12.5 inches?
This past weekend was the biggest 10-U tournament of the year in our area, featuring 19 clubs from 5 states (NY, NJ, PA, DE, and VA) and one town team 15 minutes down the road with two guest pitchers from another town team (my DD and her teammate).
The semis featured the #1 USSSA 10U team in...
Ump made my 10-year-old DD present the ball - totally threw her motion off. I told him between the inning (not a coach) that that isn’t a rule; he said said he’s umped 30 years and she need to learn that now..
After game he breaks out rules, looks at them, and is like, oops I’m wrong, sorry...
Any thoughts on the most and least important metrics this gives out?
My 10-U DD’s starting connection is really awful, which seems to come from a more upright stance.
I was curious if any former or current pitchers (or coaches) know what is their average pitch breakdown in games was/is, especially college level or high-end travel (HS age).
I asked Amanda Scarsborough and she said freshman year (not sure if HS or college):
60-65% screw
20-25% curve
5-10%...
What’s the recommended time off from pitching for a 10-year old? Her season ends this weekend. She surprisingly wants to keep going; maybe because she got a strikeout on a change-up today and wants to keep working on it. However, I told her she needs a break.
I heard our organization’s 12-U team cut 2 players, including their best pitcher, because the girls recently tried out for another team. I’m guessing it was in secret and came out to light.
Harsh or justified? Is this common?
My DD’s 10-U club team this fall was really bad. The team is young, with only 4 girls 2nd years (including my DD), and there are 2-3 girls clearly over their heads.
Despite the team being bad, my daughter has blossomed this fall. She went from being a #3 pitcher on her old team in the summer...
At what age do kids tend to stop leading with that elbow and dragging the bat?
it’s been really difficult to get my daughter not to do it. But she pitches, and in watching video most of the 10-U girls I’ve seen do the same thing.
Second question, when is it time to buy an expensive bat? Even...
