Shots Fired. I'm hit.
I'm probably being bamboozled. I can hardly follow this thread. I've never heard of "back fielding".
I'm getting pretty good at facebook though. Twitter not so much.
I'm in the same area.
I noticed a big drop off in number of players from 12U to 14U.
Then another big drop off from 14U to 16U.
I think the lower level girls start to drop off and just play high school ball because that is enough for them. Plus boys, and cars, and jobs, and home coming...
My kid played on good National level teams the past few years.
She played up on an older team that is local this season because the travel beat me down and I have other kids that are sick of traveling to softball tourneys for vacations.
We did play some good teams and face good pitching...
I used to organize my baseball cards by batting average and read stats every morning in the paper.
Numbers/Stats are fun.
I have passed this on to my kid.
She follows her stats closely and also that stats of all the teams she knows.
If the coach is using stats when they are making the...
I would say yes in High School.
I was the HS scorekeeper.
So many "Hits" that would never be hits in travel ball.
Kids going 4 for 4 at the plate because they are fast and infielders don't charge the ball, or outfielders that run forward 2 steps before getting burnt on what would be a...
My kid has changed jersey's so many times at the ball field.
I've coached many teams where I was handing out jersey's right before a game and kids went to the bathroom to put it on.
I never knew I was being a jerk and no one has ever said anything.
I also bring the pocket radar to our 14U games and clock girls.
I see plenty of low 60s from girls.
Seems like most are high 50s. (56-59)
51-53 would be an off speed pitcher.
A HS coach friend of mine has told me a story about parents that have a kid which had never played travel ball and had spent 2 years on JV with a less than .100 batting average. The parents stormed up to the coach holding their phone cameras demanding to know why their kid isn't on varsity. The...
It was a smart coaching decision.
The team just happened to not have any experienced catchers. Also my kid is not a great pitcher but well above average for high school. She is probably 5 MPH faster than the other 2 pitchers with better change of speed and the same movement. She also has less...
Kind of wish my freshman kid was in your kids situation.
Her team has 2 other pitchers and there isn't really a catcher on the team.
My kid has caught every inning of every game:(
She is probably the best pitcher on the team but hasn't even had a chance to throw a single pitch in practice as...
This is it in my area.
The teams that win are the ones that have a good pitcher, most often a Jr. or Sr. When she graduates then the best team in the district switches to the team with the next best pitcher.
I would also add you need a 1/2 way decent catcher, and 3 girls that can hit then you...
My kid is a freshman in high school.
This is how I feel about our high school team and it's pretty cool.
Loud positive parents cheering every kid and really into the game.
Every time a kid gets a hit it's like they just won the world series.
It totally makes since though. It's hard to keep...
I just noticed this too.
It's pretty cool.
My kid had about 5 clips in there from 3 games.
2 of them the timing was off and it caught the stuff in-between batters.
3 of them were really nice highlights.
This is awesome for me (A guy that keeps telling himself he is going to take some...
I bought my kid every kind of sports glasses. RecSpecs, prescription sunglasses, and Athletic glasses....
It was $1000+ waisted as she never wore them. She only wears contacts.
Her choice is 100% fashion based and is not practical.
Yet she still wears crocs.
Every time we pitch, but I just got my first pocket radar a few months ago:)
It's good feedback.
I find it especially interesting to see how she does day to day. When she is worn out from other activities she can lose 4-5 mph on speed pitches. It helps emphasize the importance of rest and...
In our age group I see 6 out of 30 teams from out of state. There is a good mix of HTX and NTX teams though.
The Alliance tourney's seem to draw a few good teams from other metro areas which is really cool.
I'm still pretty green as far as understanding how all this works though. I didn't know...
First time I remember having to do this for Ronald McDonald. My kid has played in it for the last 3 years.
I don't really mind, but I don't really see a reason for it. The "Whose Coming" list this year looks like 80+% teams we see at local tournaments which cost 1/3rd the price and don't...
