I've used force 3 for umpiring for last 5 years, never had a problem, still holds up well. Although I have.the regular mask, not hockey style (won't fit my big head). Taken plenty of foul balls off mask, No problems at all. If the helmet fit my head, I'd get this deal.
Say a runner missed third and scores, all action then stops and ball in circle, can the defensive coach call time and just say " appeal the runner missed third base". Or do they have to throw the ball to third base?
Well, once a runner missed homeplate, there is no more baseline so they can do as they please. The catcher should know that she doesn't have to tag runn er, just appeal to umpire " she missed home! ". and touch home plate, just like any other base.
Thank goodness our MS games have a 2 hour time limit, which everyone seems happy with. We trying to get a two hour limit for JV, but that not flying now….,
In school ball here, coaches are suppose to rate the umpires after a game on game management, rules knowledge, mechanics, etc. Then at end of year we get the list of all the ratings from varsity, jv, and middle school. it's nice to see where I sit amongst fellow umpires.
As for travel...
DD had 5 different team jerseys, (including school) never wore any of them off the field. What she still wears is tournament t-shirts, which she has plenty of. She does wear her last team hoodie once in awhile. As for pants, we never had custom pants, jus t black, white, and gray. I think...
What you have is a manager there, not a coach. A coach will help weak players get better, a manager wants good players, hit a few ground balls, then fill out the lineup.
DD ran into this in 12u. She made a real good team based on her hitting. She was weak at fielding. At the end of the...
I've called strikes on batters a few times for not being ready. Last one the next batter was sitting on the end of the bench oblivious to what's going on. Is said to the coach we need a batter. She tells into dugout "who's up". "Suzy is"came the reply. Suzy then jumped up, couldn't find her...
so the one minute is suppose to be from the last out to the batter in the box? I've never seen that happen (has anyone?). And as an umpire, I've never enforced it. Maybe I should do that next game, watch everyone go crazy. Then what's the penalty, ball on batter?
Well anyway, it's a video of a runner on 2nd, the batter hits ball foul, the pitcher gets the ball back and is walking behind the circle when the runner on 2nd steals third. SO when does the ball become live?
Home team winning in pool game 9-4, 8 minutes left in game, home team gets up and scores two runs then time runs out. Do those two runs count? Or if inning wasn’t completed so those two runs not count? Like I said, pool game when runs affect seating. USSSA rules
One things coaches need to teach young players, but never do, is HOW TO DROP THE BAT AFTER A HIT!.....I've done a bunch of middle school games this year where the catchers, been hit, I've been hit, and bats have been flying out of batters hands with no regards to where they are landing. It's...
That's what the coach said to his pitcher in a middle school game I just called. The only way the pitcher could get the ball across the plate.was to pitch it like an old timer in a beer league game. She dropped quite a few in there for strikes. The other coach questioned if those are legal...
Wow, both times the batter moved back to give the catcher a clear, unobstructive throw to 3B. I've called interference on batter a few times when the batter backs out of the box, but the ball got away to the left of the catcher and she retrieved to throw to 3B. But this is ridiculous, too bad...
I just umpired a middle school game. Girl gets up, gets a hit, and on the follow through hit the catcher, not bad, so I told the catcher”hey, that comes with the position”. The 2nd at bat the same girl did the same thing, got a hit, hit the catcher, this time on the arm which stung the...
