Got rid of Brentt Eads
No longer ranks 7th/8th graders
Guessing some backlash from last year when they had that big screw up with high school ratings and got a lot of criticism for ranking younger players.
Yup.
I think it was $150 or so to try out and then another $175 or so to participate.
Then spectators need to pay $10 a day to get into the complex, and they make $$ from the stay to play aspect. Money grabbed at every turn.
Your last statement is correct. The vast majority of parents in...
Talking to some parents who had kids do this 8–10 years ago, it seems the level of play used to be better.
I don’t know this for a fact, but my guess is the selection criteria has been significantly reduced over the years in an effort to increase the number of paying players.
For those considering USSSA All American games in future years—Just wanted to share my experience.
For context: DD is 13u plays 14A PGF, Triple Crown, Scenic City type events. She no longer plays USSSA but had always wanted to try out the games and some of her friends were going. She tried...
What have folks seen with how 16u gets utilized?
In the Northeast I’ve seen some orgs often move top players straight from 14 to 18 and skip 16s completely. Or they use 16u for stronger 14s and a few 15s.
Just curious how the 16u grouping gets used differently at the different levels of play.
Saw a weird situation unfold yesterday:
As best as I understood the events:
20 team unsanctioned event held by large well known org. 14u—-essentially field consists of all A level teams within a 100 mile radius.
Cash prize for first place
Organization A enters 2 teams. One is basically...
Just saw a post on Twitter with a video of a 91mph exit velo off of a tee. Measured by blast motion. Player appears to be a 2027–less
than ideal swing—avg size kid.
Could that be correct?
TY!
Yes it pretty much happens on all swings at this point. I just checked for the fall season and balls in play were roughly 40% to the pull side.
You are spot on— Fortunately it’s not super noticeably unorthodox at full speed and so it only draws attention in tough times.
I guess that’s...
That was a great video.
DD has similar back foot mechanics. Intentionally developed with a lot of scissor drills and also driving the back foot through at contact off of the tee over past 2 years. As she changed teams to a franchised org last fall, a few well intentioned coaches pointed out...
Agreed—have not seen any college coaches at 14u. The org’s position is that showcases are where you need to be to play better teams. I’m not sure how accurate that is.
One of the perks about this message board—
I knew that if I included “spring” someone would call out that high school and college are still going on. But if I only said “summer”, someone would also be quick to observe that spring doesn’t technically end until June 21 so there may be a late...
For a 14u Regional showcase team on the East coast. What would you expect in terms of number of events entered over a spring/summer season?
Big name franchised org.
