Just a brag on my DD, who gave up a promising softball future to focus on her Equestrian dreams. After offers to UGa and UCD, she decided on TCU, the current #1 ranked program. Her visit was impressive. TCU takes care of its athletes. She's going to have a blast.
Get this. TCU doesn't...
We all know many of the best pitchers only throw 3 or so pitches. Why throw a crappy drop if your rise, curve and change-up are unhittable?
We also know that all 12-14U pitchers are at some point taught all of the pitches.
So when do you finally give up on one? When do you say "Know what...
HS pitching coach called a time out (after my DD struck a girl out) and told my DD she was throwing too many strikes.
Their armbands don't have any indication of where to throw the pitch. Basically just FB, C, CU, R, etc. Her travel team uses code to allow for purposeful misses inside or...
Headed to our first "real" showcase event next week. From reading here, I know:
1. Don't sit behind backstop - this area is for coaches
2. Don't be a bad/annoying parent
Outside of those, what else? I mean can you chit chat with the coaches, or should you really steer clear?
Can my...
I'm seeing ridiculously low prices on Xenos today (from reputable sellers). Not sure what's going on. Perhaps just clearing out inventories for the new version, or simply having problems getting rid of them. Curious if our experts know what's going on.
We were at a tournament in Tennessee last weekend with some of the best '09 travel teams. The Extra Innings 2027 #1 player was there, pitching for her Impact Gold National team. We never played them, and they did win the tourney, but we did have a break when they were on the field next to us...
This happened to us twice this weekend, once on offense and once on defense.
Field does not have a safety bag, so just a single base. And as we all know, the single first base is inside the foul line. Pretty straight forward.
Right handed hitter bunts, and then runs to first. The throw hits...
My DD asked me this question, and I had no answer. I'd never even thought of it.
When your DD commits/signs to play softball, does she still have to apply to the college? Like write the essays, put the whole package together, and actually do all the things that a non-athlete does?
Let's say you know a rise ball is coming. And you know the ball will be 1 inch above what your brain is going to tell you (based on hitting thousands of fastballs).
What do you do?
What's a slump (to you)?
My DD went through her first one this year, on her travel team. Hit well in Feb and March, but then May was a disaster. Came back strong in June and even stronger in July (as the travel year concluded).
That May was ~30 at bats, and she just was off. Had some hits...
My 12U daughter is a solid pitcher who hits her spots well. But the pitch calling for location is 1 through 5, covering off the plate, river, middle of plate (not called really), etc.
But there's no indication for if the pitch should be high or low.
How or when will that come into play...
Any of y'all on the high school Board of Directors (or whatever you call it locally)?
Just curious if there's much documentation, a charter, etc. or the Board just makes decisions as issues come up.
Heard some good advice about having uniforms and glove in your carry-on, as they're much harder to replace if your luggage gets lost.
Any other tips for when flying to a tournament? Headed to OKC next weekend and it's our first time flying with gear.
A new pet is arriving soon, and my DD wants to name it something to do with a catcher. The name can have multiple words, in fact it's quite common to have the name be a phrase or short sentence.
Any ideas?
My DD is 11. Hitting righties or lefties isn't really a thing. She barely notices and seems to hit fine off either.
For you parents of older girls... is it ever a thing? Do girls ever platoon? Do your daughters do worse against lefties? Do they hate hitting lefties?
I've seen these online. How's it work?
There's absolutely no way people are traveling around the nation comparing 12U players. So they're just getting input from coaches, right? Coaches submit their players? It certainly seems like something people could pay for placement, or game the system.
We have a handful of bats in the garage, due to two girls playing travel ball for a few years. I put the 13 year old on the tee and gathered the following data. I was a bit surprised:
Just did the same with DD2. This daughter is two years younger, but has played the same amount of years...
