Back to the original post, I would suggest talking to everyone. Trust me, I'm not that guy, but I've learned so much and have heard so many things over the past couple of years. Softball is a very small world and the word gets out quickly. Talk to your teams parents, talk to parents they run...
From my experience in the NorthEast (SE PA), tryout season starts in July and tournament play ends in the beginning of August. DD committed to a new team on 7/7 and still had 2 tournaments left. If you tryouts extend into August, it seems like you are too late.
There are really only 2 cues that I'll say to DD when she is struggling. Fast arm or Posture. These 2 things account for 90% of her issues.
But the most important thing I tell her and any of the players is to be a goldfish.
After I gave up asking DD to pitch, she decided on her own at the end of 11u that she wanted to be a pitcher. I frantically searched the internet to find out how to start her out and wound up with all the wrong information (HE). Realizing I could only harm her, I asked the Dad of the best...
DD tried TuffToe and hated it. Said it changed the balance of the shoe and hurt her toe.
Bought 1st pair of Ringors and they lasted 3 years. They have a small tear in the pitching toe, but are still very usable
Btw, DDs JV coach never warms up the pitcher. Had her #1 on the bench when #2 was struggling. #1 got 5 warm up pitches on the field before game play. Oh and she also borrows a players Ghost Advanced to hit fungos to the outfield.
To the OP:
Outside of how terrible most MS ball is, please take this as a learning opportunity for DD. Coach obviously did something that shook her confidence and didn't prepare her for the task she was expected to accomplish. DD's job is to now, during a practice not right after the game...
Lack of Brush Interference.
I've seen this one myself. Stud at 10u, Stud at 12u, 2nd year 14s and is giving up pitching. Velocity hit 60, but can't find the strike zone. Converted from HE and never got rid of the monkey butt. I couldn't believe it when I saw her the other day. Had to...
In 8/10u I used to draw an "X" in the dirt for the bat throwers to drop the bat on. In those games, saving the catcher and ump were way more important than the batter getting on base.
DD has the dual stamp and the advanced. The ADV is her game bat, but she still loves the DS. I don't think you can go wrong with either, until it breaks. DD just cracked her replacement DS. She is very careful with them and only uses them in warm weather. If Easton won't send another...
DD has also become obsessed with speed. She is a 14YO freshman. Went into winter workouts throwing 50 consistently and came out throwing 55 consistently. 57 is her short term goal.
Most of her gains were from improving push off. PC says the rest is in her head.
She is really strong, so it...
It's funny. My 19 year old son made me watch all 4 hours of that thing (even know half of it was in the other version). I actually thought about softball during that part of the movie.
We played an indoor tournament in Feb. where the rules were questionable at best (in play off the wall, has...
DDs batting coach tells her a specific number of reps. 1,473 was used in the last speech. I wish I paid enough to remember the exact number, but I'm pretty sure it changes every time. The point he makes is, no matter how long it takes to get that specific number of swings in, the swing won't...
I'll do one better. I'm going to line up my pitcher in the line of sight of any runner on second base. No way that runner is going to see the ball get hit
I bought DD a used 2019 PC as a practice bat when her ghost DS was getting warranty replacement. It is a -9 to make up for the ghost being overweight. I wouldn't say it is better than her dual stamp, but it isn't any worse. The ball jumps off the bat.
She does complain that mis-hits hurt...
Gamechanger doesn't have a lot of options. If a player is called out advancing from 3rd to home, you have 4 choices: Caught Stealing, Offensive Interference, Out on Appeal, & Other. For the advancing players, you have Stole Base, Defensive Indifference, Fielding Error & Other.
You have to...
DD played in a sports dome this past weekend and just about everything was in play. Off the ceiling, off the walls, all were live balls. The Ump was expected to determine if the ball hit the ceiling in fair or foul territory. Reminded me of grade school kick ball in the gym.
