    HS Softball Started

It's fun keeping track of your team. DD has played on and off with several of your girls. She might be playing with some on her current travel team, but I haven't learned all their names yet. Looks like we will meet up toward the end of the season. I'll be the guy pacing around looking...

    HS Softball Started

I'm hearing a Gordon Lightfoot style yarn sorta like the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The legend lives on..... Edit: I mean like a happy version of that song, not one that ends in tragedy  . Didn't really think that through.

    Leaping? Or replanting?

Right, but this is the pitching forum where we hope hitters don't hit.

    Leaping? Or replanting?

I agree it explains it, but I can't imagine an ump having to try and figure out the landing trajectory of the front foot in real time, unless it is super obvious. I also think it's entirely plausible to have an extra push from this position without altering your front foot landing position...

    HS Softball Started

Our numbers are up for the last 2 years. We will have 2 or 3 seniors and maybe 3 juniors. 10-12 sophomores and guessing 10 or so freshman. Looks to be a decent size class coming in next year also. We do apparently have a senior who has never stepped foot on a softball field prior to this...

    Sparkler Showcase Game Questions

Reminds of certain team that won Bronze division at Sparkler and the coaches (and some parents) posted how they won the whole thing. :ROFLMAO: In their defense, I actually think they thought they had won the whole thing.

    Sparkler Showcase Game Questions

So, DD gets an email inviting her to play in the CO Sparkler Showcase game. Is this worth doing? Is it a real "showcase" or some sort of money grab or whatever? I did a quick search and didn't find much on here about it and honestly don't know how this came about. Looking at the website...

    Clearwater Invitational

I watched the FSU vs Stanford game and the Seminoles did a good job adjusting to, and mostly not swinging, at Canady's riseball as the game progressed. When she had to come down into the zone she was hittable.

Side Crunching/Leaning Sideways while Pitching (Posture)

My DD did this also (or something similar). It took quite awhile to fix, and honestly she still keeps her throwing side shoulder higher than most. As ArmWhip suggested we did a lot of work from the K position and focused on not leaning and keeping her throwing shoulder down. We also played a...

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

Another conundrum wrapped in an enigma. Is there a height/wingspan dimension that would help determine whether a large arm circle (centripetal force) or tight circle (more whip) is more beneficial to a specific pitcher? I think Folkard is 6' 4" and seems to use a somewhat tight circle with...

    Hitting hip and throwing inside

Is this similar to how Pickens throws?

    Scap Retraction, Loading

DD (at times) has an almost a bizarre amount of scap retraction. I think it's useful, but has caused her problems getting stuck behind her body and throwing around her hip. She was a dancer when she was younger, so I sometimes wonder if the odd positions they would contort themselves into led...

    USSSA Gulf Shores Nationals

Only been once, and that was for 12u if I remember correctly. We had quite a bit of down time. The team did normal beach stuff. Rented a couple pontoon boats and went out for an afternoon. Went to the Hangout and LuLu's. We had a great group kids and parents at that time, so it was a...

    Whiplash

I thought the solo got off to a strong start, but then turned into a bash fest. Normally a schooled jazz drummer wouldn't end his solo with single stroke rolls and cymbal smashing. Now granted Buddy Rich would feature his single stroke speed in his solos, but that's a completely different...

    Whiplash

Curious what you thought about the drumming. I wasn't particularly impressed, especially with the big 'finale' solo. I know this is irrelevant to the softball community, just curious. It kinda took me out of the moment. I was thinking, "you've been screaming at this kid all semester and...

    Pitching instructor said... 10%

In DD's case it's mostly due to lack of time. I know, I know, if she wanted it bad enough she could find time, but with playing multiple sports and the mountain of school work she has, plus private lessons and weekly team practices, there isn't much free time. She gets up at 6:00 a.m. and...

    Pocket Radar readings

I can confirm this. DD's team went up against Marcella's team a bit ago. I ventured out to the left field fence for a chat. Got the ban hammer for being his cantankerous Boston self. Sucks. He was one of the brightest posters on here. P.S. He would never say this, but Marcella is one...

    Errors vs hits in scoring

Our HS Game Changer is done by a parent, who naturally has a kid on the team. She doesn't even sit in the dugout. I'm not sure, but I think the "official" scorebook is handled the same way. Edit: Actually, I think a parent scores the game in the scorebook, and then one of the coaches puts...

    Kankakee NSA nightmare

I was there spectating since the Missouri High School playoffs are still going on DD's team didn't play. I find it a bit odd that you have these big exposure tournaments in the St. Louis region at a time when a lot of the better local players can't play. I guess that's how it works out. 🤷‍♂️
