A friend described this recent play to me:
Runner on 2nd, 2 outs a 2-1 count on the batter; pitcher throws a change up that the batter swings at misses. Ball hits the dirt before the catcher catches it. Runner on 2nd broke for third on pitch release.
Batter takes off for first thinking it...
NFHS posted a video about obstruction on a play at the plate.
Umpire called the runner out/no obstruction.
Could a case be made for obstruction/safe? No, the runner did not change their path, but it sure looks like they were impeded.
Anyone have experience with the TNT showcase that’s July 4th weekend in PA? Specifically, is the Sunday single elimination for every team or just a select bunch?
Web site states it’s a 6 game guarantee and her team already has 6 games scheduled Thursday, Friday & Saturday.
Illegal pitch in this video?
Recent hs varsity game, rule set is NFHS. For me, the pause is not long enough to appear to take a sign.
I know it’s a judgement call.
Any umpires ever restrict a coach to the dugout in a high school game for not being in adherence to the NFHS rule regarding appropriate clothing? Rule states that the coach can wear pants, shorts or other leg coverings as long as they are school colors or black, white, grey or khaki.
Ok, with the leap rule appearing to have been changed in the USA rule set, what are considerations and key performance indicators for pitchers learning how to leap? Provided they want to.
A 14u pitcher's weekend at a tournament I worked this past weekend:
Friday 65 pitches
Saturday 97 pitches
Sunday 270 pitches
432 total
That doesn't include warm ups.
Dad is a coach, mom keeps Game Changer,
so they aren't in the dark.
Personally, I don't think that type of volume should be...
Attached video of a 14u game, USA rule set.
6A section 1D is pretty clear, "while on the pitcher's plate, the pitcher shall take a signal or appear to take a signal with the hands separated."
Further, from the April 12th, 2019 USA Softball Rule Plays and Clarifications:
"they must step on the...
Since Cooper Union is finishing their semester remotely, I've been able to take advantage of my son's video skills.
He did this overlay for his sister the other day.
I recently watched a presentation from a D1 college head coach and she touched on the large percentage of freshmen pitchers starting their college experience having pitched too much in high school & travel ball. Interestingly, she did not offer up any potential remedies.
So, what is the extent...
Two scenarios:
1. Play at the plate, catcher is obstructing, umpire has their arm out for obstruction, catcher has the ball, runner crashes into the catcher.
2. Play at the plate, catcher is obstructing, umpire has their arm out for obstruction, catcher doesn't have the ball, runner...
My DD is due for a new glove.
Has used a Rawlings Liberty Advanced the last few years, held up ok.
She's looking at the Rawlings Heart of the Hide? Any thoughts on that leather? She's a pitcher and an outie primarily. Will be a freshman in hs next fall.
I've handled a few Nokona gloves, very...
Here's a picture of Monica Abbott.
To me, the letters on her jersey and belt buckle are more oriented to home plate than first base, suggesting that her hips are leading the way into release, not firing or predominantly "closing" after release. Would love to hear pitching coaches take on her...
Ok, here's the situation:
No outs, runner on first. On the dropped third, batter/runner heads to first, umpire calls her out, she keeps running, defense attempts play on her, ball gets by first base, runner that was on first scores.
Can the umpire call any interference on the batter/runner...
USA softball rules in effect. Is this a legal or illegal pitch? Was not called as illegal in the game. Is there enough of a pause with the hands separated to appear to get a sign?
I say "no", illegal pitch.
