Looking to buy a used/broken in mitt for a left-handed throw catcher.
Mitt must be fairly well broken in as this is for a high school player who does not play year round, and since I'm a righty throw I can't do all the work breaking it in.
Doesn't have to be top of the line or anything.
Looking for some thoughts on ways to limit the size of a runner's lead at second base. We play a few teams where runners will get that halfway lead. Sometimes it leads to a delayed steal. Mostly, if a runner is 40 feet off the base, I want to get her out.
My catchers have a tendency to want to...
Was observing a travel game today, and the base umpire almost never went to "C" position. From what I could gather he'd only go there if there was a runner on third only. Never with 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd. He'd stay in what I guess you'd call "B" position, but it was basically right behind...
I bought two cases of the 2023 Topps Athletes Unlimited cards. They have a ton of cards in each box, so much so that I was able to put together a couple dozen (at least) complete sets.
The 200-card set contains players from all four AU sports (checklist below).
Will sell a complete set for...
Wondering if anybody has had a pitcher who has had occasional pain behind the knee.
A couple years ago, my #1 pitcher had the issue with her right leg. She missed about a month of pitching that summer. The doctors never did give her any real diagnosis.
Lately, she's had occasional pain...
OK, so I am rarely stumped by a scoring situation, but I'm not sure about this one. All runners who scored marked with (R).
B1 - Walk
B2 - Walk (R - Scored on B6 walk)
B3 - Strike out
B4 - Comebacker to pitcher. Good throw to first, muffed by F3. Ball trickles away. B1 comes around third and is...
I'm trying to figure out where the best place to put my pitcher on relays.
The obvious answer is the pitcher should back up 3B/Home, and the 1B should be the cutoff on plays at the plate.
But for most of our games, there is very little room (less than 30 feet, and often times 10-15 feet max)...
I'm sure the knee-jerk reaction to the title is "Never give an umpire notes!" But let me explain the situation.
I helped get a former student/baseball player at our school into umpiring last summer, and he's registered with our state association this year. I'm giving him a bunch of our JV...
I have plans to help one of my players who wants to play in college set up the necessary online accounts for recruiting.
Looking for a list of what everybody thinks is necessary, or even useful.
I know people use twitter and YouTube. Some have instagram. I'll have her sign up for the free...
Looking for some clarification on the proper mechanic here.
Should an umpire either signal or verbalize a fair ball? Does it matter where it's hit (before the base/after the base)? Does it matter if it's touched?
I've been told and read somewhere that umpires should announce foul balls (with...
Asking this only about proper scoring of the play, not the rule itself:
Batter hits a little flare behind the third baseman. Shortstop makes a diving effort. Ball deflects off her glove, into foul territory and out of play.
I know the rule is two bases. That's what happened. Batter ended up...
This year I'm looking to do a multi-day camp for middle school girls for the first time, but I don't know how to structure a camp like this.
Can those who have run one before post what you do?
I can't figure out if I should run it like a team practice? Something else? I know one school does a...
I don't know how often this comes up, but it happened in a game last week and it's an obscure rule people should know.
Sometimes the defense needs to get a fourth out in the inning to prevent a run from scoring. There are a few different ways this could happen, but I think the most common is a...
Today our opponent started the game with nine players. One of their girls got hit by a pitch and came out of the game.
Her spot in the order came up two more times after that. Both times the other team took an out.
My questions are exclusively from a scoring standpoint:
1) Does the pitcher...
I've posted plenty of examples of the umpires around here who don't care at all about doing a good job, aren't interested in knowing/learning the rules, and who are looking to leave ASAP. After today's game, I've decided to start a running thread of all the times this year umpires demonstrate...
I know everyone gets sick of the HS coach threads. I do, too. But here’s a story that needs to be shared. This is a long one.
A Freshman I know just quit her HS team last week. She’s been playing for the HS coach since she was in fifth grade. He obviously knows how talented she is, but that...
I was reviewing the NFHS DP/FLEX Simplified, as I do quite often, and something I hadn't really noticed before stuck out to me:
Why is "STARTING" capitalized here? I read the actual rules and didn't see anything that would suggest a substitute in the DP position can't do everything the...
Looking for one or two used catcher's mitts for my high school team. I don't have enough for the number of pitchers/catchers I have this year.
A 32.5 or 33 will work. A couple of our new catching prospects are on the smaller side.
For all the HS coaches out there, what's your daily practice attendance percentage look like?
I have the expectation that players show up every day (emergencies/academics are exceptions). That, of course, is futile. In reality, 85-90% attendance is what I look for (this year, that means 24+ out...
OK, coaches, let's have your pre-game routines.
One area I have probably failed is in developing a regimented, consistent pregame routine. A lot of that is because, as a high school coach, I never know exactly how much time we'll have before a game (away games depend on travel, and we've even...
