Oh, please don't take it wrong, your advice was quite excellent. Monkey butt and early turn of the shoulders were spot on catches. I just don't think the straight arm at release was an issue. ;)
I don't think the main issue is the arm being "straight" at 6:00, or release. I also don't think she's missing the whip but rather not being efficient with what whip she does have. While I will say she could lead with the elbow longer and create more lag in her arm, her posture and shoulders...
As with so many things in pitching (and sports in general) . . . it depends. A hop can indicate a bleeding of front side resistance, which is inefficient. I don't know if its "bad", but its inefficient. On the other hand, a hop can be a release of front side resistance after the ball is...
The resolution of the stills isn't great, but her posture is significantly worse in the recent video than the old one. Though I will caution against addressing any issue on the basis of a single example.
She has also lost a bit of whip in her arm. The two issues often go hand in hand...
I agree pitch counts would be a nice thing. In the vein of "this is why we can't have nice things" there are just too many moronic coaches and parents out there to not have a pitch count.
The major pushback will come from organizations who could no longer have 8 game guaranteed tournaments...
My guess would be hitters force baseball pitchers to hone their craft to a much greater degree than in softball.
Developing "proper" spin, as @sluggers noted, is an agonizingly tough endeavor. If a softball pitcher can coast by with velocity and pin point accuracy, what is the impetus to spend...
These are Tincher instructors in the area, don't know if any would be close to you. Tincher instructors have at least been certified (for whatever that is worth) and know and teach correct mechanics. I've personally not met a bad Tincher instructor yet:
As for other instructors, hopefully...
I'm in the same camp. My DD could achieve most of her velocity just playing catch underhand. The drive helped in other ways, such as getting closer to home, but I don't think it adds all that much velocity.
Run, RUN, don't walk to a different instructor IMMEDIATELY.
There is a lot going on here. To start with, she needs to forget the lower half and work the arm motion in isolation until that is correct. Then issues with the lower half can be addressed.
She needs to get a feel for the arm circle...
As far as I know, that is the correct call. The batter could only be guilty of interference if she, well, interferes in some way. Running around and causing chaos isn't against the rules as long as it is not intentional unsportsmanlike conduct. Its really no different than a runner thinking...
What was the umpires call? An out? In that case, the umpire got it wrong according to the Kentucky rules. Its outlined pretty clearly in the case situations:
Nope, no run. Where the ball is hit or how long it takes to get the out doesn't matter in this scenario.
Consider this, would the run count if the left fielder picked up the ball, gunned it home, and got out the runner advancing home from third?
Normally, I'd say don't worry about this as the issue is very, very minor. But you stated previously, you are into the nitpicking stage with her, so here goes.
This is the point where her anchor occurs:
@Fury_Mike has it right, her leg thrust is a little weak. The anchor happens because her...
We have a conference award for sportsmanship only. Then team awards for top JV player (stat based), golden glove (stat based), silver slugger (stat based), academic (GPA based), and a golden heart award that is voted on by the team after the final game.
Not really any judgement calls other...
How much of a hinderance is her drag foot? Has she peaked in spin and velocity and this is part of the fine tuning of mechanics to get that last extra bit of potential? Or is this just something you've noticed and don't particularly like?
As was mentioned, this isn't a quick fix. Practice...
On the same hand, what is the distance gained from the crow hop? As was mentioned above, the crow hops aren't significant, not at all like in the men's game.
Sounds like she is doing just fine. For work at home, just have her throw about 5 feet into a net and strongly focus on the proper techniques. If she's getting good lessons, they should be giving her "homework" to do in between lessons or certain things to focus on.
Its amazing how much...
