    Throwing the mask off

Generalization? It's a fact! All you have to do is check the catching posts of the past. I have not seen the NECC DVD. I have stated in the past that I probably agree with over 90% of what is on the DVD based on what has been posted here.

    Throwing the mask off

I'll tell you what the strong evidence was. The evidence was that Dave saw very young kids and kids catching that had no business catching. I would tell these kids to keep their mask on too.....or find another position to play. The above was typed in jest.......I have no idea what Dave's...

    Throwing the mask off

Anytime people on here disagree with anything I have to say concerning catching, they use NECC as their source if they provide a source. It has never been a source from Jen Schro, Chaz Wood, Xan Barksdale, etc. It's always been NECC so it is NOT a bull$#!+ generalization. If you don't believe...

    Throwing the mask off

Why do you think it would hit her in the face? Are you not confident in her skills? We're talking a straight-up high pop up. A much tougher pop up was in the Georgia/Florida St. game. Check out bottom of the 2nd inning with 2 outs. Mask off, total confidence, no problem.

    Throwing the mask off

This statement is what most here do not, or refuse to comprehend. They live by the teachings of the NECC DVD, which I am sure is an excellent catching resource, and many here have stated that NECC endorses keeping the mask on in all situations. Since they consider the NECC DVD the bible of...

    Throwing the mask off

What truly happened pertaining to actually tracking the ball the whole way.......you can still track a ball and be confused, not confident, and unsure of yourself. You just tracked the ball incorrectly. However, like I said before, it is my guess that she lost sight of the ball for a split second.

    Infielder gloves

My dd's fielder's glove is a Rawlings Pro-Preferred 12.75 outfielders baseball mitt. It is also a thing of beauty. She chose it because it felt the best to her. Vinci, Mizuno, Nokona, Rawlings, Wilson......their top shelf gloves are all very good. It's really a matter of personal preference.

    Infielder gloves

My advice is to let your dd try on the top shelf gloves from as many makers as possible, or order a custom made glove from a company like Capire that makes the glove to your specs. I ordered my dd a Capire top of the line catchers mitt in Japanese Kip leather and it was almost $400 including...

    It's Unofficially Official!

That's awesome YOCOACH! Congrats to your dd!

    Throwing the mask off

I'm with Riseball.....apples and oranges. A true apples to apples comparison would be for the catcher to not wear her mask as the pitcher is pitching to the batter. Nobody on this forum is advocating that.

    Wilson Promotion Gear

I know they purchased Louisville Slugger about a year ago.........

    Throwing the mask off

Only Jelenicki knows what truly happened. I see a botched pop up due to mistakes. Being right under the ball is problematic. You don't want to be under the ball like that. She was not tracking it properly the whole way. She had to take a step back and reach across her body in order for the...

    Throwing the mask off

Oh I agree....she misjudged the ball. I'm saying because of that it is possible (just guessing on my part) that the mask's upper crossbar further complicated the situation. I noticed that she wears her mask where her eyes are at the top of the viewing area of the mask instead of the middle of...

    Throwing the mask off

Lawrie had a valid point IMO. That ball was high and straight up in the air. I'm just guessing, but when the ball drifted on Jelenicki it went to her right and more towards the field of play, probably putting the ball into her upper crossbars. She lost it for a split second and made an across...

    Scenic City Showcase

It was one of my dd's favorite tournaments to attend.

Glove and other equipment care questions

For the gloves/mitts, I clean them of all dirt with a damp cloth, buff with a dry towel, and let them air dry. I then apply pure lanolin. You can find tubes of lanolin in the nursing mothers section of a pharmacy. Squeeze out about a pea-sized amount and rub into the leather. A little goes a...

    Swing down?

They are definitely attacking from the top but by no means are they swinging down. Totally agree with you FFS.........

    How do you know?

D3 schools do not participate in the NLI program because they cannot offer athletic scholarships. Acatchersmom, continue to contact the your dd's schools of interest. Chances are the coaches are on vacation or are getting their ducks in a row for the upcoming TB tournaments.

    Player fees

It depends. What does the contract state? Please tell me there was a contract that had to be signed by a parent or legal guardian that explains all of these questions in detail. If not, each situation could be different depending on the deal the coach can strike with the leaving families.
