Hi guys, I'm coaching a team of players who are all relatively new to the game. I have been asked by several parents what glove they should be buying, obviously parents dont want to spend a fortune, no more than $80 or so. These girls are all 7 or 8 y.o approximately.
Any suggestions?
ps. easy...
Thankyou for that, no I dont have clips of myself throwing though.
I haven't been catching for very long, only a year or two. And my original coach was a bit odd, didn't really get the game and was only there so the team actually had a coach
Erratic meaning they could go anywhere. Very little control, often high, often left or right, I dont discriminate haha.
I was thinking it could be to do with footwork maybe?
Thanks for this guys.
The only issue is that the head coach is a bit of a hothead, and when his players swing at anything outside the zone he either hangs his head in frustration or walks away. He has even taken her aside for words about it. Needless to say, she doesnt respond very well to his...
I'm 17, and a lefty catcher. My blocking is generally okay, but i have an erratic arm that could do with being stronger to second. Does anybody have any ideas for drills to improve accuracy/pop time?
Okay. I have a 12yo girl playing in her first season. I am the assistant coach.
Anyway, in her very first game she was hit on the shin by one of the quicker pitchers in the league. Since then, when it gets to a game situation, she refuses to swing the bat, because she's scared she's going to get...
in the 14U team i assistant coach, we have a player who is only new to the sport, and when she goes up to bat, her hands are around the wrong way for a right-handed hitter. We've tried her from the left side but she keeps going back, left hand grip, right hand box. But when we correct her hands...
There's no rule that I'm aware of.
I dont really think it's good sportsmanship though. But if the catcher and pitcher can change their signals regularly it shouldnt be too much of an issue anyway.
I personally wouldnt do it, and have previously, when offered the opportunity to know what the...
I sprained my ankle a few days ago while playing, quite severely (enough to warrant a trip to the ER for x-rays). I am currently wearing a compression bandage in order to reduce swelling. However when I return to playing in two to three weeks (hopefully!), I will need some extra support. My...
Do you guys tend to struggle to get enough umpires to cover games? I mean where I'm from it's not unusual for a game not to have an umpire 10mins before start time, some unsuspecting parent or spectator gets pulled in and often the game suffers as a result of an umpire who doesnt know the rules
I am 17, have been playing baseball and softball for 10 years. In the last 12 months i have taken up umpiring as well. I am curious as to how many players, in particular younger players, take up umpiring in their teens. I am from Australia and I have noticed that a lot of our umpires began at a...
I love catching and the involvement you get from playing the position. However in June of 2009 i had minor knee surgery and was told that I probably wouldn't be able to catch without some degree of pain. When I borrowed a friend's knee savers, i noticed that I could catch pain-free. I have...
I'm a 17yo first baseman/outfielder/catcher and I do a lot of tee work to try and improve my hitting. However, I am just constantly hitting into a net, and while I can feel the difference the practice has made, I am getting bored with the repetition of just hitting line drives straight to the...
I umpire as well as catch and have seen that nearly every catcher does this to some degree. I know I do. But what kind of umpire would be insulted by it? It's just a catcher trying to do their best for the team, and any reasonable umpire would see that the catcher moved the glove and therefore...
