We all have to determine the value of our own experiences.

How do dfp softball families weigh, balance and value
Moneys spent in softball?
Does it have an equal value?
Greater or less than value?
Is time more valuable?!!!

Here is a tidbit i learned from.

I always looked at the time/money spent on softball activities through the lens of replacement value. As a family, if we were not involved in softball, what would we have done? I suppose we would have traveled more (or at least to different places). I'm sure DD would have found other activities to be involved in (most of which would cost $ anyway). Personally, I probably would have spent much more time on the golf course (again, $$$). I'm sure the three of us would have managed just fine without softball, but I doubt we would be any better off financially. I'm sure that money would have been spent in other ways.

Honestly, my fondest memories of the sport are the time I was able to spend with DD and her teammates. Second are the times on the road with other families. Dinners, nights out, lawn chairs and a grill outside a hotel room, etc. Yes, as a coach, I still remember a lot of the game play. But what I truly miss was all that other stuff. Now that DD is in college, I miss it. I miss it a lot. It was great having her home for the summer. Just something as simple as playing catch in the front yard was a great joy to me.

My parents were right. Time goes by way too fast...

We have waaaaayyyyyy overspent on softball, and don't regret a single dollar.

Private batting and pitching lessons from age 9 on; thousands in club fees; thousands more in travel, hotel, food; countless dollars spent on Gatorade and water for the team; coaches gifts; team parties, and on and on.

But nothing can replace the time we spent as a family - the good, bad, and very, very ugly. Can't imagine my relationship with my DD without softball. Prob would have bought a new car or travelled overseas or golfed more. But seeing her in the box and in the circle and watching her grow, overcoming fears, obstacles, forming lifelong bonds with teammates and coaches...priceless.

So Cal
If it wasn't for softball...

We would have gone to Hawaii more often. Instead, we got to spend weekends at the Best Westerns in exotic destinations like Modesto, Salinas, and Hemet.
We would have slept in more on the weekends. Instead, we got to get up before the sun to get to practices and games.
We would have had more backyard parties. Instead, we got to discover the best and worst features of folding chairs, and the most efficient way to pack an SUV.
We would have spent more time in different rooms of the house. Instead, we got to spend countless hours in the same car, listening to music, talking about stuff, and laughing our asses off.
I would have spent more time riding my bike and/or playing music. Instead, I learned how to livestream video.
We would have done the renovations to our house that we've been talking about for 10 years. Instead, we made life-long friends with people we would have never otherwise met.

To be completely honest, I have mixed personal feelings about getting my kids involved with sports which have little to do with the money spent. That said they seem to enjoy it so..

I didn’t start the OT sh$@ in this thread.
I made a softball comment..just because I was being truthful and it didn’t read like a f’ing hallmark card doesn’t mean it wasn’t relevant.

How about this? Everybody that wants me gone because I am so bothersome can give me $5 and I will take my annoying a$@ somewhere else. Sound good?
