I think if the first move is to loop (turn) the barrel under they are in trouble for any pitches up in the zone.

You know I'm not a big fan of TTB.. but I believe this to be the most misunderstood statement. If the pitch is high in the zone, posture emulates that location, the barrel doesn't turn under the ball, it turns on the same plane as the ball. I see no disadvantage with TTB on a pitch up in the zone.

That's what Dante is a big promoter of, getting on plane and hitting it hard. That's what Bo does... no talk about launch angles. Get on plane with the body, shoulders follow that angle, bat revolves around the shoulders resulting in the barrel being on plane with the pitch

Yea, I know.. The swinging "down to" that all the pros speak of has no loop. Hard to control the barrel when trying to drive the ball through the target (Bonds drill). I see the barrel as floating behind the hitter vs being turned under. The barrel turn is a result of what the pitch calls for.

You should watch some of Josh Donaldsons swings since balls up in the zone are being called (not good).

What's the point of continuing to show the Chamberlain .gif? She specifically says in that clinic she is trying to cut down on the ball to impart back spin. In fact she says it's a 'scientific fact' that chopping down on the ball will create backspin and the ball will travel farther. This isn't her showing a swing that's missing tilt and so forth, this is how she claims to swing.

I don't understand this statement "being turned under", it's not being turned under, if it's turned on plane? The clip of Bo you posted is a perfect example of a hitter matching posture to the height of the pitch and turning on plane.

I don't know what she said but her first move is swinging "down to"

she does swing that way. So does Bonds and Ortiz. The actions of getting on top to chop is the MLB hand path. Every good pro talks about back spin from the most direct path possible.

She doesn't chop down on the ball. Her first move may very well be "down to", but she turns "up through" at contact.

@julray, Dante Sr. Was a big fan of Bobby Tewks. Tewks talks about getting the lead arm ‘up’ and the back arm ‘down’. This is what he believes to be right. It’s another way to chop. Bo once in the mlb said I try to hit the ball into the ground as his FIRST warm up drill everyday. that’s a chop.

vlad does the same. Pretty obvious to me what they are trying to accomplish.

that Dante Sr. Vid is pretty old. Maybe he has changed his tune. Or his son and Vlad aren’t listening. I think it’s the former.
