My DW also uses a Canon T7i with lens from the stock camera package. Here is one of my favorite pic of a Power Carbon at work (yes it was sold by Core). this pic was from centerfield with the 300mm zoom. Would like to hear about better options for lenses.

I’m a semi-pro
I have a Canon 1DX, 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8 and a 100-400 4-5.6
My best advice is to make sure you have a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action/ball/bat. Crop tight. When possible get the eyes/face and ball in the shot (although reaction shots are great too)

Great photos, can you give some settings to start with for daytime games (bright sun). Just purchased a Canon 70-200, 2.8 and will be taking it to the ball park soon.
Do you use manual or auto focus?

Using a Cannon 80D. I shoot in Shutter priority mode, 1/2000th or higher. ISO set to Auto. Single point auto focus mode. Few years ago bought a Tamron 150-600mm Zoom lens, and it allows me to zoom in and get some great shots from the outfield. From this angle, you can see batters faces, and expressions.

When my DD is pitching, I am now recording, which gives a great view of the pitch movement and location on the plate. I set-up on a tri-pod and shoot through the fence. At 300+ mm of zoom, the fence disappears from the image. For a 200 foot outfield fence about 300mm gives me a nice view of the pitcher, catcher and batter. For batting pics, I'll zoom in closer, around 450mm, which shows the batter from head to foot. AT a full 600mm zoom, you get the batter from waste up.

Awesome pics. I also shoot with a canon, albeit an older 50d. Was thinking of a lens purchase and the 70-200 2.8 was in my sights. Do you use the IS version, monopod/tripod?

Always auto focus set to AI Servo, back button focus. I usually start with auto ISO, f2.8 (or whatever is the highest setting of the lens), 1/2500.
A trick I use when there is harsh sun/shadows is to use these settings and then set exposure compensation to overexpose1 stop. That helps with the shadows and makes adjusting in Lightroom simpler.

Yes my lens is IS but I turn it off for action photography. At higher shutter speeds it does not help and the only thing it will do is slow down auto focus.

To ensure I get pictures of every girl, I usually go position by position and try to get a few action shots of every girl. Once I'm sure I have pictures of every girl, then I can just follow the action.

Learn the signs. If the coach is signaling a steal or a bunt, this will help you get prepared for the perfect action shot.

Here's the kicker - don't get caught watching the game and missing the shot!!!

^^^^^ THIS... and anticipate where the next play might happen. (Ex: girl at 3rd and less than two outs, focus on home pate just in case there is a play or slide at home.) My DD was at 3rd and so I set my focus up on home plate and ...waited... ;)
