Has anyone noticed a change in recruiting by colleges?

Has the additional year of eligibility disrupted recruiting for HS juniors and seniors?

not only the the extra year but the dead period for division 1 still dant understand why they can't or couldn't go out and meet in person but all other divisions could, the extra year is school specific as to how many kids take the extra year how many already on roster and the budget for the program as I may be mistaken but certain number on roster may require more coaches and the program may not have money in budget due to pandemic and no camps etc..

Yes. Have noticed more coaches waiting until this summer to give offers to members of the 2022 class. They are “waiting to see what current players are going to do” with regards to extra year of eligibility. This is what I’ve heard for mostly OF positions from several mid-major D1 coaches.

We have a girl on our TB team who I wish would have looked at mid-majors for pitching vs OF. She cruises at 62 with great movement but wasn’t really given a chance to pitch her freshman year of HS because her team already had a girl who was their designated pitcher. She really developed over her sophomore year as a pitcher and of course Covid hit. If she pitched for her HS she’d probably be one of the top pitchers in the area - she’s that good. However, she has focused her recruiting more on being an OF (which she is also extremely talented - no fear).

This kid is a legit pitcher, one of the best HS-age pitchers I know of in SEPA - It’s too bad no one will get to see it.

You never know! I know a team here in Tx that had 3 of their pitchers out for Covid for 2 weeks. Their Sr Outfielder has pitched more than any other pitcher on the team. 53 innings. She was even the pitcher of the week for her conference.

in some cases yes. In some cases no.... It is not the main disruption though.

What I would say is that the extended dead periods have been a much bigger factor for recruiting; even for the coaches who can recruit; without D1 saying yes, it is hard for everyone to figure out what to do.

It isn't helped by the coaches hoping they can get an extra year out of their known quantity current players or some experienced graduate transfers so they can afford to wait the whole thing out.

( I have had one coach who flat out said they are not taking any 2022's because with players staying, he doesn't need anyone from that year. But that has not been the norm)
