Lol. I agree with you. Good talk

    Score the run?

I agree with everything you said and your philosophy except the ‘kind of dead’ thing. The ball is dead, period. Of course baserunners have to fulfill their base running obligations during a live or dead ball. That isn’t the issue. The issue is what to do with the home run hitter.I looked at the...

    Score the run?

Why would I do that? The ball is dead. The runner ahead of her was ruled out for being assisted For the first out. How could I take the home run away from her and place her at 3rd?

    Score the run?

In my case who do you think should have been placed at 3rd? The runner who was assisted back to home or the girl that hit the home run? I’m confused

    Score the run?

Could you give me a rule reference? I’ve looked a few things but I cant nail it down

    Score the run?

Fortunately for me there we no outs when this happened but I started thinking about what would happen if there were 2 outs. I really don’t know. Perhaps there’s a case play that I need to reference? Anyway, yes, in my mind I was considering 8-7-E when I made the call. As you point out, that...

    Score the run?

USA SOFTBALL: Runner on second base, 2 outs. Next batter hits a home run over the fence. The runner from second base comes home but fails to touch it. One of her teammate’s notices, grabs her and assists her back to home plate as the girl that hit the home run rounds third. She is properly ruled...

    Look Back Rule

In the actual rules, rule 8-7-H talks about it and Effect -Section 7F-I clearly states and supports that it is, in fact, considered an appeal play.

A thread for the umps...what would you do’s, oddball plays, war stories

I’m not sure how you correlate early calls with biased calls but, that being said, you more likely have an umpire getting caught up in the action and letting his anticipation override his tempo. Umpires are trained to hold their calls until the completion of the play. Newer umpires have a...

A thread for the umps...what would you do’s, oddball plays, war stories

I think what you meant to say is that you need to wait longer before you make any call. Remember , Stop-Set-Focus-HOLD-Call. There is no need to rush any call. If he/she is out or safe now, he/she is going to be out or safe 2 seconds from now. Take your time and get it right the first time

    Help from my fellow umpires

When working from behind the circle with a field that’s well lined now or working on a field without fair/foul lines clearly marked in normal 2 umpire games, (like the good ole days..lol), I will remind the coaches at the plate meeting that any ball hit down the line will, at best, it be a...

    Quick pitch?

TMIB and jackfrost are 100 % correct. It’s a litigious world we live in. Nothing should happen until the umpire is ready.Part of that is ensuring not only the batter but also everyone else involved in the game is safe and aware of what’s about to happen. Thats why we take a step or two back...

    yesterday's games

Yes, we have a field here like that as well and we handle it the same as you do.
