I agree with everything you said and your philosophy except the ‘kind of dead’ thing. The ball is dead, period. Of course baserunners have to fulfill their base running obligations during a live or dead ball. That isn’t the issue. The issue is what to do with the home run hitter.I looked at the...- umpwally

Why would I do that? The ball is dead. The runner ahead of her was ruled out for being assisted For the first out. How could I take the home run away from her and place her at 3rd?- umpwally

I’m not sure how you correlate early calls with biased calls but, that being said, you more likely have an umpire getting caught up in the action and letting his anticipation override his tempo. I think what you meant to say is that you need to wait longer before you make any call. Remember , Stop-Set-Focus-HOLD-Call. There is no need to rush any call. If he/she is out or safe now, he/she is going to be out or safe 2 seconds from now. Take your time and get it right the first time- umpwally
