Fringe issue, even if they allow trans women to play women's sports the number of them is so small and the proportion of that group that wants to participate in sports is so small that more women will be more likely to play with/against a woman with "unusually high" natural testosterone levels...
I'm not saying we need to forgo other sports, but how does one merely get away with playing one season of rec softball per year and hope to have a shot at making a competitive varsity team in high school.
Not only the reps, but youth who play a sport year round have access to much better...
Interested in the camp. Did you think just before age 9 was a good time to attend? Had she played a season or two of 10u before attending for the first time?

Thanks. I do agree that the bottom swing feels more natural for her.
My aim with telling her to keep her barrel pointed up is so it doesn't drop rearward during the load, leading to the front arm locking out and flattening the swing. Trying to have her stay connected.
I will try some swings...
Been working on her swing a bit. Read through some old threads here on dbsf. In the last session I just told her to keep her barrel pointed straight up.
Here's a side by side swing of her attempting to do it (top) vs letting the barrel drop (bottom). Swinging with the barrel up is tough for...
In my experience (coaching 8u players), swinging under the balls is a combination of
1. Being late/not loading until ball is released
2. Using arms to swing instead of hips

Isn't the problem solved by making the cutoff on September 1 instead of Jan 1? It would keep the vast majority of kids with their grade level and not give ones who "redshirt" the benefit of playing down.

Yeah I understand that, and it seems to manifest itself in the Hockey numbers, as that was the example used in Gladwell's book.
However, we see the Baseball numbers show a high proportion of Sept-Dec birthdays (older kids in the grade). Is there something different about baseball? Do they go to...
I don't understand why Sept-Dec birthdays seem to get lower representation for softball? Those are the oldest kids in the grade, who should theoretically have the advantage? The baseball graph seems more intuitive to me, which shows Sept-Dec birthdays have a much higher representation.

Big10 seems behind on coaching. They're a P5 conference, surely they should be able to recruit at a decent level right?
They do suffer from location, as softball players are more likely to stay closer to home vs a player willing to travel cross country to play football at the University of...
Thanks for the replies. I'm currently coaching a team right now and don't mind getting more involved. Just wondering whether someone will scoff at the idea of practicing twice a week plus a game vs only once (rec baseball already does 3 events during the spring).
I'd like to try and level up...
Hey DFP,
I wanted to ask other members how often events (practices and games) are held for their rec softball leagues (8u or 10u)? For us, it's just one practice and one game (2 events) per week in season. Our league's all star teams are getting smoked by other leagues that do 3 events per...
