    Mound improvements between innings.

Yeah, the first thing my DD does when she comes out to the circle is to dig out the sand/dirt they just filled in the hole between innings because otherwise it ends up in her shoe. She'd rather have a hole than a hole filled with lose dirt.

Advice needed for getting my baseball obsessed 7yo daughter to even entertain the thought of making the switch to fastpitch

Jade Gortarez from ASU played baseball in high school and switched to softball in college.

Not the best start for Jordy Bahl

I heard the announcers saying something about other teams complaining about the dirt having a lot of clay or something. Maybe cleats dug in and got stuck.

    Playing Up 8U-10U

The first question I would ask, is your DD having fun at the 8U level? If she is having fun, not bored and still learning it may be okay not to move up. If she is already one of the best on her team and getting bored with the level of play, I would consider moving up. If you keep her on 8U, let...

    Elite Pitching Instructor

My DD hasn't gone to her, but know people that have gone to Paisleys Pitching. It looks like she focuses on building strength and speed. I think she is located in our around Long Beach.

Exercises to make backswing more consistent/ straight?

My DD just went through a very similar experience. Seems it started a bit last summer and was more pronounced in the fall. One college coach commented in feedback to her after a camp that she should work on resolving that. We also worked with her pitching coach who tried to get her to change to...

8u pitching practice...how much is too much?

I agree with all the other suggestions. We I started out with my DD at 7 and 8 yo, it was important to keep it fun and interesting. I had to vary the drills and make up some games just to change things up. I would include challenges if she like to get competitive. An additional thing I would...

Pitching Technique Question HE -> IR

I agree with ArmWhip. You should switch to IR now. My DD was being taught at 7 (now 16) to throw HE style and she was struggling because she naturally wanted to throw IR. Out of dumb luck, I switched to a new coach teaching IR and saved her (and me) a lot of pain later. Just know that she is...

    a rec coach decided...player contracts

It wasn't just the title. You said in your original post, "a commitment to the teams schedule games & practices." This is what I had a concern about, and calling it a contract seemed to emphasize this point. If you miss games or practice, something punitive will happen. I suggested in my early...

    a rec coach decided...player contracts

I think this where select or all stars comes into play. For those that want to develop more and play at a higher level. Rec/City leagues need this type of program. These programs can have clear rules around attendance and behavior. It's a nice middle ground between Rec and Travel. I know it...

    a rec coach decided...player contracts

I don't see a problem with an initial email to parents that reference some simple key points, but I think you need to keep it positive. This may be the first time some of these parents have been exposed to their kids playing on a team. No need to scare them away. Help them cultivate a love for...

    a rec coach decided...player contracts

Setting expectations for the team should always be done at the beginning of the season. It is fair to set expectations on attending practices and games. Connect those expectations with the enjoyment they will get from dedicating themselves to learning and having more fun. To me expectations are...

    a rec coach decided...player contracts

I also feel a contract is the wrong approach for Rec ball. There is not ability to enforce this except for guilt/shame. That already creates the wrong environment for Rec ball where kids are getting introduced to a sport they may not even know if they like. Often parents just want them to do...

    Starting Travel Ball (bat recommendations)

My DD switched to a Xeno first year 14U and has loved it. She I mainly got it as a backup because I heard they were durable, but it quickly became her main back. I bought her a second one as a backup and she just now switched to that newer bat after 2.5 years of using her first Xeno and that one...
