I think we need to resolve that there is no real interest in a pro league. I feel for the players that need to go oversees to get paid, but at least they have that option. We should enjoy the college game and the tournament that they put on and recognize it for the highest level that it is...
I think the WCWS is such a well produced and played tournament that it draws those big numbers. It also is played at a good time of year for most softball fans to watch it. I have watched pro games and the quality of the production is not even close. Could an ESPN be interested? Maybe, but...
Overheard from a catcher this weekend when asked by her coach where did it miss. She said I don't know it was over the plate! The pitch was called a ball so it missed somewhere!?!
Wow, maybe ump was just in shock. I dont know how I would have reacted to that one. I like when on a close pitch the coach asks the catcher where it was and she says "I don't know, I guess outside" Like yea it was! That is why i called it a ball.
Worked (umpired) 3 games in the am, Grad party for a former player in PM, home to catch the end of the US Open, right into USA Swimming Trials and USTAF Trials.
Thanks for the replies so far. I guess I could have pulled to coach aside and had him tell his players to cool it, but I assumed some if it is just "part of the job" I worked with a guy a couple weeks ago at the plate meeting he said - "I welcome questions, ignore statements, and punish...
Question for the vets here. How much chirping do you take from the benches? I am not asking about the usual "whoah" or "nice spot Mary, looked good". I am talking stuff from players like talking about not golfing, he isn't calling that strike for our pitcher, that girl was so safe - learn the...
I am also on our local softball rec council board. So prior to the season I go over with them what the strike zone will be and I tell them I will expand 1 ball off the plate either way and I will go knees to sternum (which somehow becomes letters when they want to complain). For my higher...
I am an adult that does rec games as well as higher level games. It will be the parents and coaches that give you the most trouble. Try to tune it out, but if it gets too much or is personal let the coaches know that you are their partner in the rec season, not their adversary. Rec should be...
Fair ball. Draw a line from point of plate to foul pole, ball on or over that line is fair. The line is "imaginary" through the front of the batters box
