Would you dare try to teach this move? skip to the 2 minute mark.

Why do we see it here as standard technique?

I thought the science of it is related to the kinetic chain. The scissoring action arrest the front hip, brings it to a sudden stop so that energy can then be transferred up the chain. Allows you to whip the bat while the contact point is gap to gap. Hips flying open will also eventually...

    Teaching the high level pattern

I am going to have to disagree on Trout with the reward lean, actually none of those pics show that. That angle you posted is more from the front, not the side. Look at the forehead position and then look at TM himself and some of the HLP hitters. Chin up, forehead back. Trout, Freeman...

    Teaching the high level pattern

I thought the thread was call "Teaching" not "Worshiping". Teaching should include dissenting opinions. In fact, questioning the motivations and methods is crucial to understanding. If one can't field and defend one's positions then I have got zero confidence in what they teach. Sorry to...

    Teaching the high level pattern

Ooops I just read the previous post. Disregard my comments and carry on the TM love fest. Mods could move this to the hlp vs thread.

    Teaching the high level pattern

What I see in a lot of Richards stuff is a backwards finish of the head that looks off balance. Sort of leaning backwards. I am not trying to pick on this player here just saying what I am seeing. I also see a crazy high finish of the hands. Also Trout gets leveraged and then he swings, he...

    Tony Gwynn

Modern baseball hitting wins you regular season games. Old school high average guys wins you playoff games. 1. Playoff pitching is the best of the best. Reg season it is easier to go yard on not so much. To your point above, better to walk Ichiro than have him bust a single with a runner...

    Help with this issue

I have seen a lot of players lately with too vertical of a bat path. They aren't popping up, but they are hitting towering fly balls as easy outs to the outfield, because if the timing is not perfect they catch it a bit out front and up, up and away for an out. Some players need to take a...

    Help with this issue

I would correct the front arm collapsing. Getting the front arm up will help keep her connected, give her a better path. Some MLB players appear to finish where your daughter does, however if you look closely they are even with their front shoulder at extension, then pull their hands...

This Old Man is dusting off the cleats

We may be dealing with a little bit of angles but what I am seeing is a lean back. Not an ATTACK posture. You should feel like your head is over your front leg. Fix this and I think you will be in good shape.

This Old Man is dusting off the cleats

Mike Trout describes the move out as feeling like he is getting on a horse. Do that and see if it helps with the front leg reaching. There is no flex in your rear knee that gets straighter as you start the move. Watch Donaldson in this video and watch his back leg. He starts with it (back...

    Swing down

Just listen to what he is saying. He explains it quite clear here in the video below. Bonds knows his body turns the bat level and up through the ball. MLB guys are always fighting against doing that too much, because that is what is easy. Down to with a turn keeps them from "chicken...

    Swing down

We may be getting somewhere; what creates the curved line for a swing referencing the brachistochrone? Lets refer to it as a loop vs a straight line. Are the hands manipulating this path?, or is it the result the turn of the body. Imagine now that the cycloid is the turn of the body, the...

    Swing down

Seriously, for the last 4 or 5 pages we have made a clear distinction about barrel path and hand path. In the following video this guy says, it is not swing down, level, or up through but then he demonstrates swing down, hand to the ball and proves why that works.
