I'm about as far from a pitching expert as you can get, but it seems to me that IR is a much more explosive/"violent" pitching mechanic vs HE, so I'd expect overall to see overuse result in more injury in those pitchers.
It's the opposite. IR is so much smoother. HE is just as "violent" but with inefficient mechanics.

I think the conclusion of the article is valid and needed.
I wonder if the forced addition of more pitchers (due to pitch counts) would hurt or help the game in the long term.

It would with out a doubt help the long term health of a lot of girls. It would also change how games are managed especially tournaments.

I am going to have to disagree on the conclusion being valid- more garbage in garbage out if they do not break out the style of pitching- would you say the same if it was a study on cars and they just included cars and did not tell you if there were electric and gas cars in the study? Same thing power is generated in completely different ways- same as IR vs HE so to try and lump them together or not list throws any hypothesis they come to into question.

There aren't enough pitchers now for all of the teams. I don't think it will force more kids into pitching either. This is why pitch counts in softball will never happen.
There are plenty of kids that want to be pitchers when they are young. Every 10u team I know of half the girls on the team want to pitch. By the time you get to 12u those that didn't get to pitch any or very little quit pitching, then in 14u that gets whittled down a little more now you don't have enough kids that want to pitch. With a pitch count more of those girls would continue pitching because they would get reps in 10u and so on. Pitch counts are going to happen, it has already happened in the Little League association Minors/Little League (Majors): A player may pitch in a maximum of twelve (12) innings in a day. If a player pitches in seven (7) or more innings in a day, one calendar day of rest is mandatory. Delivery of a single pitch constitutes having pitched in an inning.. It is only a matter of time until it spreads.

The ex pitchers we have seen though the years NEVER quit because they did not get enough pitching time. Not sure where you are but usually in the SE if a girl says she wants to pitch get out of the way because you will be run over by coaches trying to grab her- no matter the level there is a team that needs her.

Little league has had that in place for a long time- my daughter played and still have younger ones still in a very large competitive LL program- what I never understood is oh you can't pitch now but go out to out field or worse yet go catch- you just can't pitch- defeats the purpose of pitch count.

Pretty sure it is the same for boys, they don't have to leave the game. I am in the SE I know several 10u teams pretty well and they all have more kids wanting to pitch than they can possibly get reps. My DD team has 7 girls taking pitching lessons.

My point exactly if they don't have to leave the game pitch count means nothing and the league can say "hey look we are looking out for the kids"

And the girls taking pitching lessons will start dropping as they realize the continuous work needed- usually it's the catchers and pitchers that do the most outside of regular practices so it takes a huge dedication many are not willing to give. Then the parents start adding up the private pitching lessons regularly
