16u - team is moving from local regional to larger tournaments and showcases for 2023. Team is mainly 2025's

Are you indeed a showcase team or just expanding your schedule? It's one thing to have an extensive roster and another to get all of those players' actual playing time.

Unless you are truly a showcase-only team or trying to win a national tournament you will be challenged with a large roster.

I know at 16u people mention players missing, doing other things, etc. but for the most part, players don't miss during those eight weeks of the summer. Can you have a large roster? Sure but you better have the schedule/games to go with it.

We played a Corona Angels Tyson team at PGF this fall, and they had 22 girls in the dugout all weekend long.
Teams like that make the championship game of whatever tournament they are playing 3/4 of the time so there is plenty of opportunity to get kids PT. Also for the most part there probably isn't a whole lot of difference in talent between the kids so the players are interchangeable..

They were very good, and Patty was watching them play us that day, so that was cool. They got 16 girls in the game against us in a 1:15 minute game. They rotated every inning except the pitcher.

Did I mention they beat us pretty good?

This is very valid point. The better the team the more games they play (many more innings to play)if there is an elimination bracket. These teams are usually the last to leave the park. The good part--lots of games! The bad part--lots of games!

When joining a showcase team, how many players is too many on the roster?
At Showcase events~
As long as there is some equality to playing time, think that who is on the team trying to Showcase maybe more important than how many.
~Is there Talent on the team that is actively contacting colleges to gain their attention to come watch?!
~Are the players on the field doing a good job?!

Say it like this...
If there were 18 players on the roster
( two teams worth)
and everybody got 50% playing time,
Would hope that the players on the field were showcasing the best to keep the colleges wanting to continue watching when the other half of the roster got to take the field.

I don’t have any problem with the numbers OP posted.

The coaches make or break this deal. If they are experienced showcase coaches, there wont be a problem. If they have daughters on the team, red flag. If they have daughters who pitch, it won’t work.

The stated goal is to focus on showcase.

I’ve got 12 on my 16U team. 4 pitchers and 3 catchers. We rotate (takes planning) defensively every 2 innings. Rotations are set based on pitcher (pitchers/catchers rotate every 2 innings also). Everybody hits. Lineup picks up where the last out was made in the previous game. I only pick up a pitcher if I have one that can’t be there. I don’t pick up any other positions.

You do this for showcases only or for regular tournaments as well?
