This isn't some controversial stance. It's not arguing against sportsmanship. I am saying that being forced to shake someone's hand and tell them "good game" whether it was or not is idiotic.

In your wife's presence, tell your DD "You don't need a wedding. It is idiotic to be forced to say those vows." Tell us how that works out for you.

Post-game handshakes are a ceremony. What an individual gets from any ceremony is based on what the person puts into it.

If a player or coach expects nothing from the post-game handshake, then they get nothing from it.

If they put some effort into being present and participating mentally and emotionally in the post-game handshake, it can be a rewarding experience.

These guys look very sincere, and hockey is one of the most physical games around.

I see your point now. If someone at some point in their lives would have just stopped forcing sportsmanship on those 2 players on the opposing teams by having them shake hands after a contest, unfortunate things like you mention would stop happening in youth sports. I'm certain that's where their bad behavior comes from. I saw in the paper last week that one of my former athletes from 10 years ago was arrested in a drug raid ... Damn hand shake.

At this point I'm just going to assume the obtusity is intentional because it's difficult to imagine someone missing the point as completely as you have.

It is not without its good or bad. Agree not sure it is necessary. Probably in 2020 many teams were just doing a cheer and that was fine.
But for some reason line came back. 🤷‍♀️

LMAO ... I've got to draw the line at "cheering" ... I'm not talking dugout and field chatter ... I'm talking the "through the gate 08, through the gate 08" and the "wiggle wiggle wiggle, Ashly hit a triple"

I've never seen any bad behavior in a high five line.

How many have you actually been part of?

The truly bad acts aren't common, but it's not uncommon to see extra hard hand slaps, switching to a fist (not just always doing fist bumps), etc.

I imagine things run a little hotter with boys, too.

But really, the bad behavior or potential for bad behavior isn't really the reason we should get rid of it. It actually serves no useful purpose. It doesn't teach anything. A simple wave/"good game" would suffice, and it did for the better part of two years.

NOT much into song cheering myself
and that was not what I was referring to...
Although some teams like it.

*was talking about a team shout-out cheer where just say a team's name and clap twice type of thing.

It's like a verbal group fist bump high five

*** cheering doesn't always mean singing a song. Cheering is also words of support, yelling out, encouragement, excitement, appreciation...
