Sure seems that way. Personally, I always appreciated your honesty. Sometimes honesty is not welcome.

Recognition is a challenging topic to me. Obviously there are levels to it, but awards should be reserved for those that excel; academically, athletically, professionally, etc. There are those that believe being average deserves an award.
Yeah..I am not blameless 🤣

I have no problem with external recognition when deserved. I just think that how those closest to you (teammates, coaches, colleagues, etc) perceive you is more important than some award and that parents shouldn’t make a big deal out of external recognition, one way or the other.

Of course this is just my opinion which I should be able to give on here without being accused of telling everybody what they should do…😉

That looks like a one-sided perspective, how about the other side...

Sometimes people can be in a really bad situation with negative teammates coaches and colleagues.
Then awards from an unbiased outside opinion that's viewed on statistics and performance,
*That is unbiased from personality, unbiased from the effect of favoritism on a team.
Can have a worthwhile positive feedback in the form of awards.

Wherever those Awards come from may or may not be biased...
However you still have your achievement on your wall, whatever it's for, it means something to you.

I said I had no problem with external recognition. Just don’t base your (or your child’s) worth as a player, etc on such things. In other words if you think your kid got screwed for an award don’t go blasting your grievances all over social media, IMO of course…

With nothing better to do, I looked at the stats ... Love this stuff.

In the infield and at catcher, they got the best hitters at each position, so unless a great fielder was snubbed over an inferior one, those choices look very solid.

Interesting that they selected two third baseman – Cummings of ETBU and Gordon of Belhaven – for first team. Cummings out-hit Gordon this season, but Gordon got Player of the Year. Perhaps she’s the better fielder, but my guess is that she’s the best player on the best team, and that’s why she’s POY. But if Cummings is her equal defensively, then she had a better year than Gordon.

My choice for POY, however, would’ve ETBU’s shortstop, Maddox – assuming she’s a good defensive shortstop. She ranked ranked #2 in conference OPS+ (behind teammate Cummings) while stealing 19 bases and while playing perhaps the most important defensive position on the field. Also appears to have led the conference in runs scored.

In the outfield, some better hitters were snubbed – namely Abila of McMurry and Markley of UT-Dallas. They were the best-hitting outfielders in the league. One is second team; one is third. Both steal bases, so I assume they can run and play defense. I see that Markley batted #3 and played center field and got third team. She probably should've been first team. Abila was a leadoff hitter who played left field. Probably should've been first team.

Thibodeaux, who made it despite72 at-bats, must be a really good player that they gave the benefit of the doubt to because of injury keeping her out of some games. Did not deserve first-team based on production. She made it as utility, not outfield, so maybe she plays a bunch of positions.

The outfielders who did make first team weren't chopped liver, though. But McMurry Abila or Markley should've been first team, if not both.

With the pitchers, all picks look fine to me. Williams (second team) had better stats than Grogran (first team), but they are teammates, so I’m guessing the coach advocated for Grogan. Perhaps she’s the one facing the better opponents, aka, the real ace.

How's that?
This is not to disparage any of the players as they are all great. This is purely stat analysis. Numbers don't lie. Yes, for the most part they got it right, with a few glaring exceptions. Yes I'm a UTD dad. I don't want to get too deep in the weeds, I gotta take care of some booster club stuff in a bit. Btw-ETBU got knocked out of their regional yesterday by Linfield.

I think they awarded too many Pitchers. IMO-I give the nod to Williams at UHMB.
Pretty good analysis @Nimrod . Appreciate the deep dive. Yes, Markley got hosed. Maddox had a great season and deserves it. And yes, she is great SS. Thibodeaux earned more playing time during the year. Yes, great player.

3B- I think Todd should have been at least an At large pick or UTL-played 3rd and C. Way Less K's but very similar stats to the other 3B's. Similar HR's. Less dbls.

White IMO deserved to be named the 2B not an AT large over McCord who is a good player too. White hit .100 pts higher, less K's, lots of SB's, but less power.

OF--Abila most definitely. Ambrosy should be in the mix IMO as well. Speedy Slapper. Just doesn't have the power numbers. NFCA All Region last year.

I'll be catching up on all of the Regional action this afternoon.

This weekend HS team awards and all league teams are being decided. Sports Award ceremony the end of the week. Cautiously optimistic but prepared for my DD to be disappointed again.

You would fit in well at robocoach, but there is a lot of blasting going on over there. You might get triggered.

Good luck to your DD. I hope the coach doesn't let the players vote of the awards like they do in our HS area, which turns into my vote is not for this girl. Rather it's no vote for the best player b/c they are so much better than the rest of us and we are tired of you carrying the team.

Unfortunately, it is player vote. Players and coaches get a vote. In 7th grade she missed MVP by one vote, and I voted for the 8th grader that got it. In 8th grade HC didn't let AC's vote and she missed it by one vote to a 7th grader. The dingbat of a HC when he announced said it would have been tied if my DD hadn't voted for the girl who was MVP.

My DD is the ultimate team player, but 8th grade stung.

Dude! That sucks. My DD hit more HR's than any other player in the past 15 years. Got 1st Team All District her last 3 years along with a 2nd team her freshman year. Not one award from her own team. She should have been at minimum Def MVP for her team and the District her Sr. year. Same player not only got Most Improved, but also Def MVP. How is that even possible? And how does a coach let that happen? That stung. DD rec'd team MVP this year and coincidentally it was the same day 3 years ago she got snubbed at the sports banquet. Kids care about these things. Redemption.

When you have the kids vote, the coaches should at least give each player the stat sheet so they can make an informed decision not based on feelings.
