It's in NJ for 10/12/14U. There are plenty of what I would consider "elite" TB teams and organizations playing in it.

Other than saying your DD is playing in an "elite" TB tournament in the middle of HS season, what is the advantage of going to this?
And stiffing the HS team while you're at it...

Reminds me how a number of orgs here in NorCal tried to push their way into HS ball in 2021, taking advantage of the delayed season, by offering tourneys in Feb-March-April, the heart of HS season.

- There had never been HS-age tournaments during that time before
- Because nearly all TB players play HS ball and
- California bans TB play during the HS season plus
- NCAA is in a dead period until early June, so recruiting isn't possible.

It was quickly shut down because it made no sense, except as an ego-booster for the parents and TB coaches, and as a money grab for the clubs and TD.

And what of the subsequent years? Will there be more HS games missed as DD ages? As a HS coach we make sure the team rules on attendance are distributed to parents and players. Conditions for missing a game are: illness, school activity conflict (school play, ACT test, academic issues, etc..) religious/funeral. Unexcused includes work, birthday, social events not school sponsored.

Penalties - 1st offense - inactive for next game - coach issues written warning to player.
2nd offense - inactive for next 3 games- coach has meeting with parents
3rd offense - dismissed from team - coach has meeting with parents and AD

In Illinois, you can't play both at the same time. Also, 8th graders can't play on the HS team. My take, as always, is if you don't like or agree with the HS program, don't play.
Maybe it’s being in Illinois, but whenever these posts come up, my first question is how do people possibly do both?

My daughters HS team is practicing 6 days a week (no sunday).

What do travel teams do for a typical schedule in states that allow both?

Probably because HS plays during the week and travel tournaments are on the weekend.

Not judging, just curious how it works. Do high schools not schedule anything for Saturdays? Are the tournaments Sat/Sun only?

When I went to high school in NYS you weren't allowed to participate in outside activities in your sport once the season started, but i haven't lived in NYS for 25 years. A cross country teammate was disqualified for the season when he ran an outside roadrace during the season.

I spent about 20 minutes looking at the NYSPHSAA website and I couldn't find any information on this.

I would check with the AD or the Coach about what the policy is. Does your DD get 5 years of eligiblity if she plays Varsity as an 8th grader?

In California you are allowed to practice with your club team, but not participate in any games or scrimmages--- but individual schools are allowed to not allow you to practice with your club team during the softball season.

Some organizations run organizational "camps" for all the teams in their organization during HS softball season on Sundays.
