There is surprising little information about what bat size College players swing. I think I understand why a specific college swings a certain make or model.

I will Email Northwestern, closest relative Team to me, and see if they respond

Sports equipment's comes in different shapes and sizes for a reason. Some sports equipment are even customized to the athletes preference, stick flex, blade curve etc in hockey. Taking away the ability for an athlete to choose the equipment they are more confident and comfortable with and mandating everybody needs to swing a 34 inch bat is silly. And choking up is not a resolution, I hated choking up, I am sure there are many others who feel the same way. Confidence is a major major attribute in any sport, take away the equipment they have confidence in can have a big impact.

Edit: Mechanics is not my major concern here, but yes 1 inch can make a difference
And why are we talking about moving down to 32 or up to 34, it's not like 33' bats are no longer being manufactured. :)
Agree about confidence and probably includes comfortable for some.

Like it or not it happens
Some coaches try to mandate specific things.
Even change things like fielding footwork.
Pitching mechanics.
Now issued brands of equipment players may not like.
Like it or dont like it, the other option is transfer schools.
Or Travel ball defiance or new team.

Still bat length is
Trying something new, and so brings new experience.
It works or it doesnt.
Without trying wont find out.
Try first.

Over the years teaching/ coaching have shared my opinion on hitters bat length when to use longer bat.
Not everyone would i recommend using a 34" however some explode the ball with it.

From my own experience i would not say 34" length was bad to encounter using... because had success with that.
Team got what we got at the beginning of the season.
Find one that worked best.

Nowadays people are stuck even on brands...geez better check the brand college is gonna use befor accepting and registering for school.

(Yes i understand preferences.)

My 15 yo DD went to a D3 camp this summer, she's 5"3 and uses a 33, the coach told her she recommends they all use 34s.
Younger players hearing college coach recommendations.

influential?!

Sorry to say I was more influenced then DD. She swung a bat that was a tad too big for her for a few weeks.

Do they make a 34" -14?

My daughter is about to be in the same boat. Got recruited swinging a Demarini insane 32/22 that was light and super hot. Finally got her to move up to a 33” after a lot of attempts. She swung the Mizuno power carbon 33/24 that was a tad underweight. Last year in college she swung the Rawlings Mantra 33/23 which is about 1.5 overweight. New assistant has already given her the 34” Mantra which she said she hit better with in BP. Apparently on bat day the coach will measure their swing speeds and if no big drop off from 33 to 34 everyone will be swinging 34’s. Hopefully she can be on time vs live pitching with a log lol. She is 5’3” about 130 lbs
