DD picked up with a 14U team this past weekend for a round robin. Afterwards, they offered her an opportunity to play with them next weekend in a tournament that's local to us, called "Pony International". I have never heard of Pony in reference to SB before. I scanned the pitching rules and didn't see anything different and it looks like they use ASA/USA bats. Is there anything different in the rules that I should know? Specifically pitching, but anything.

It should be interesting because there are supposed to be several teams from other countries. We were sent the pool schedule and we play Puerto Rico Thursday afternoon.

I believe all sanctions (less NCAA) allow step back or start back now. I know for sure USSSA and USA/ASA do.

That is not true (unfortunately). All sanctions I umpire allow start back - only some allow step back.

Then I’ll stick with I know USSSA and USA/ASA do.

What sanctions do you umpire that don’t allow it? Not arguing. Curious since this comes up every now and again. And/or I keep forgetting.

PGF and FHSSA (and various college conferences of course).

FHSSA it is a state change to NFHS rules.

It's been several years since I had any direct experience with PONY, but that was who we affiliated with for a while when I ran the local league. One reason we chose PONY was that their rules are relatively similar to NFHS (at least, at that time).

Usually the big things you need to look for in a new code are: pitching motions, legal bats, and courtesy runner rules (which may be goofed up by a local tournament anyway). Other things that pop to mind right away are hit-by-pitch, out of the batter's box, and the use of the double-first base.

I think NSA also is start back not step back also. They also allow the on deck batter to come to the other side of the field(3rd base for a eighty and 1st for a lefty).

Let's hear how it went. I heard it was a Sh&t Show. People are trying to get the local media involved. People are pissed.
